anyone knows a spot ? around grevenhurst possibly ? any of the areas around there dont have a firearm discharge law ? going away for the long weekend, and suppose to receive a box of ammo before then ( a crate ), wanted to go out enjoy some shooting out in the woods. shooting paper targets, not looking to hunt.

thanks, and i am not sure if this is the right forum, but thought hunters would know the answer.

thank you.

be careful shooting in the bush this weekend as the bear season opens this weekend.there will be plenty of people around not only hunting but also getting ready to shut down their cottages and trailors

There used to be Gravenhurst Rifle & Revolver Club but I believe it is now defunct and there is an industrial mall where it used to be.I think it is pretty well populated around there now.Seems a lot of the city people from Toronto & area have moved up there & bought up the land out in the country. If you have any contacts in the area I would call them & find out about any crown land in the area.Good luck. Most of the land near Gravenhurst is owned by cottagers from TO and local farmers. You'd need written permission from the landowner just to be there. There is Crown Land, but you'll be seeing all kinds of hikers, picknicker and other riff-raff as well as bear hunters there.
Plus, there's the unwritten law that assumes that you are hunting if you're in the bush, in Ontario, with any firearm. If a CO stops you and you don't have a hunting licence, you're toast. Have a calibre not suitable for whatever game is in season, you're toast. This time of year, having a calibre suitable for bear and no hunting licence will get you arrested too. Having targets might, I say again might, make this go away.
Yogi season opens 4 Sept in the Gravenhurst WMU(53A). Opens 1 Sept in WMU 56. The whole area will be alive with hunters and CO's.
