The 2020 Championships were to be held last June in Edmonton but due to Covid were cancelled. They were once again scheduled for Edmonton for 2021 but again due to Covid there is going to be issues so rather than cancel them for a second year in a row the CTA(Canadian Trapshooting Association) has decided to have them in satellite form. In other words they will be held at various clubs throughout the country in each province on the same dates June 25th through 27th and scores will be compiled and posted electronically.
The shoot is usually held over a 5 day period and consists of a number of sub-events offering as many as 1500 targets available to shoot but this years shoot will be held over three days and offer fewer targets.
As well it was decided that prizes would not be given out so with that target and entry fees would be cut by as much as 30%.
So if you ever wanted to shoot at the Canadian Championships without travelling large distances across the country to that years venue or would like to try it just to be able to say you did here is a good year to do it and at a significantly reduced cost. Word on the street is anticipation is running high this may turn out to be one of the largest attended Canadian Championships due to the satellite format which will allow more to participate because of the easier access from not having to travel such great distances and combination of alot less expense.
Information on which clubs take up the invitation to host will be updated and can be found on the CTA's website at shootcanada.ca

Update: Confirmed Alberta shooters site will be Lone Pine Trap Club located in Olds, AB.

Preliminary Events:
June 25/21 - 100 singles/100 handicap/50 pair doubles

Championship Events
June 26/21 - 200 Singles Championship
June 27/21 - 100 Handicap Championship / Doubles Championship(50 pr.)

What - do they think that trap shooting takes place in a confined arena with people packed in the stands? Or do they not think that shooters are smart enough to stand 6' away from each other.

Just call it a BLM protest or a Trans Rights rally, they'll won't dare shut it down.

AGREED!! Same B.S in B.C too!! All the clubs I called on Vancouver Island this winter weren't even having their league shoots or allowing any members to shoot from other area clubs....

It is the travel they are trying to avoid. Rather than have people travel across the country, the satellite system is being used. Skeet has used satellite shoots forever.

It's a good solution for the current situation but I prefer a different venue on a yearly rotating basis as has always been done. Eliminates that "home field" advantage for most and puts most on an even playing field with a change in backgrounds and trap machines etc.

Suggestion: Turn the event into a Clos du Soliel wine tasting event.;)

That will get you off the hook.;)

Guess who owns part of the winery, closed restaurants in B.C., yet allowed wine tastings.

I am starting to wonder whether the Nationals will happen at all this year. Covid will make it hard for the hosting clubs to manage.

The latest update is the CTA will meet June 6 to decide whether to go ahead with the Nationals in June or postpone until August.

As it stands, the Alberta covid restrictions limit recreation to one household.

Yes, that is why they are meeting to discuss changing the date. Chances of things opening up enough for a trap shoot in late June are slim to none. I can’t imagine the other provinces are much better off.
