Police swooping in with dogs at dawn! For a pistol given to him as a gift from a vet! Unbelievable! This is an example of where we could end up if we do not remain vigilant with our governments. I know this is not a forum for politics and do not intend to politicize this post.

I just would hate to think that by future legislative action alone we could be converted from collectors to criminals.

Former mayor was a thirty year vet. His wife helps run the local cadets. He never fired the gun and kept it in a cupboard. Police acted on a "tip". He is now facing a 5 year jail term and says his life as it was has been "eviscerated" because of this.
 
OP, the paranoia of the state that you are describing not only the government but a run amok bureaucracy that considers itself to be the government.
 
Once the laws are there, a faceless, nameless, merciless, appeal-less, humanless apparatus will enforce them.

This is our future because too many people are so damn ignorant and apathetic about history and society. I'm glad I'll probably be dead before the real Orwellian times begin, but I feel sorry for my kids.

A council worker called for police 'back-up' after he found a dog poo in a park.

The Tower Hamlets Enforcement Officer accused Amber Langtry, 35, of not clearing up after her German Shepherd in Victoria Park, East London, as she was walking her friend.

Miss Langtry denied the allegation, trying to explain that her dog had not been in the area where the attendant found the faeces, but still offered to pick it up to end the confrontation

The council worker issued her with a ticket, which could result in a court hearing and a £1,000 fine, and called officers to the park on New Year's Day accusing her of 'non-compliance'.

Miss Langtry told the Evening Standard that she and her friend, who recorded the incident, had cleaned up their dogs’ mess earlier in the walk.

She also said the park attendant refused to show them the poo she was being challenged over.

Miss Langtry told the paper: ‘I remember thinking, “This is ridiculous. Why does he need police back-up for a five-foot-four woman looking for a dog poo?”’

‘When the police got here they were as bemused as I was, and they didn't have a problem with me or my dog.'

After half an hour, Miss Langtry was shown the poo, which she maintains was not left by her dog.

She told Mail Online: 'As I am a reasonable person, and would never leave a dog faeces behind, I picked it up in a poo bag and popped it in a nearby bin.'

She was told by Tower Hamlets council, in a five-page letter, that it will not be continuing prosecution, but that the officer has the power to deal with an offence ‘of failing to remove dog faces [sic]’.
 
Is it any wonder over 300,000 people leave the UK each year..!! (Our family being 4 of those) Fed up with the general bull####. Camera's everywhere, overcrowding, racial / religious tensions, decline in family values and dozens of other problems..Gun laws being just another one of them....Very sad..
 
I guess the UK is a safer place today because of the capture and charging of this long time offender (30 years), but what else could he be hiding? these are the type of people and the ones that leave dog poo in the park that the Brit's need to take off the streets ASAP to make it safe for the poor nice gang members. I bet all that longtime community and military service was just a cover for his sinister private activities. I think I will sleep sounder tonight knowing that we got that guy and the dog poo girl!

Money should be spent to find the "tipster" and eviscerate him. Or her. Scum bag informants....

In Canada he would get a mandatory 2 year sentence. How are we any different?
 
Not just a pistol. Oh no. A "live 70-year-old Nazi wartime gun". For people who invented the language, their journalists are certainly sloppy with it.

God knows what might have happened had the deactivated pistol fallen into the wrong hands, as it had so very many times in the 70 years it had been patiently lurking in England, or simply acted on its own volition, springing from the cabinet and shooting schoolchildren at tea...

Poor bloody England.

Yes but they are mis-understood poor minorities trying to become part of the mainstream by integrating into the community by way of becoming the majority in the UK, just give them time.
