I've been trying to get a forming die for the 7.92x33 Kurz case this past month, but things for one reason or another have been goofing up at the other end. Plus the one from RCBS is a god awful price. So I got to thinking, why couldn't I just buy one of the cheap Lee Kurz reloading die sets, and mod the sizer die into a forming die (either bore the end out or just cut it off at the right length?

I have a couple of local metal shops that could do the work for me, so what do you think??

I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't rough form, ready for FL sizing with a combination of existing dies. But one of the Lee dies, with the neck opened out would serve to set the shoulder back, acting as a form die.
Have you considered .22-.250 brass? It already has a pronounced taper, compared to other cases with the same head, and will be thinner in the new neck area. I wonder if it would be possible to avoid reaming.

I don't see any reason why that wouldn't work.

But, couldn't you just cut all your brass to length before running it through the sizing die? It might well stretch a bit, so maybe you will have to trim cases to 32mm to have them end up 33mm after forming, but a little trial and error should provide the proper education.

Alternatively, you could cut to 33mm, form, then trim to minimum final length and do a final pass in the sizing die.

Not 7.92x33, but I have found it works best if the shoulder is set back, and the neck formed before shortening. Almost as if the original neck guides the process.
Imperial Sizing Die wax really helps with forming.

I'm looking for a set - does Lee make them? They're not in their catalogue.

Why go to the trouble and expense of case forming???????????????????
