Hi,

I recently got into reloading and decided to go with the Forster press.

The videos made it look so easy but for the life of me I cant get the bullet to seat properly. I followed all the instructions but my bullet always ends up way down the brass if the follow the instructions. You can see in the fourth image i have attached that the brass is not going all the way in as shown on the instructions. Any ideas what i could be doing wrong? i know i have to replace the stem now anyway...I tried a different cal with a Redding die and all worked perfectly.

sorry you might have to zoom out for the images...i couldn't figure out how to resize them here.

Thanks!

So, I'm looking at the drawings, and the so called return spring is working against threaded assemblies; so what is the point?

I'm an engineer, and the drawings just do not compute.

I’m trying to figure out how the stem could get so ruined. Maybe it came that way and is the source of the trouble? Or were you really pulling on the handle? I have one of these for .223 and it doesn’t take much force to seat a bullet. It’s really gentle.

i think i might have pulled a bit too hard on one instance and hence the stem probably cant go back all the way up.

it would be nice to see how deep your cartridge sits before seating it in the press.

Yes, get a new stem. It’s a nice die.

Here is mine. Note that I backed out the stem via the thin threaded rod a lot, to get these long bullets to have the oal I want. It looks like you only backed out the upper die body, not the stem itself.

Thank you, that puts my mind at ease. A new stem should fix the issue.

Hirsch Precision has some parts.
Forster isn't like Hornady or RCBS where they'll send you out new parts free on warranty. I had an issue with the stem in a sizing die, and when I contacted them they just replied with a price (plus shipping) for a new part.
