forward scope mounts??

THey're often called "scout mounts" and are usually for rifles that either eject or have to be loaded from the top of the reciever, somethign a normal reciever mount would obstruct. These mounts usually attack to the rear of the barrel and you'd need a scope that is clear and focused with that kind of eye relief. I'm sure once you got used to it, it would be as natural as any other sight.

In most cases you'll need a long eye relief scope or a dot scope.
Its fast on target especialy if you use the both eyes open technique
to do quick target acquisition.Like most new learned body mechanics
it take a little practice to get use to. Works well in most hunting situations.
But if you are looking for percission or long range shooting or hunting
go with a quality conventionalscope.

A big advantage of the "scout" configeration is that you never have to worry about getting a scope cut - no matter how hard your rifle kicks - no matter what position you shoot from. The scopes are considered medium eye relief about 9-12 inches - so the eye relief is closer with a scout than it is with a pistol scope. The one on my rifle is an old Burris Scout 2.75X, but Leupold maybe the only maker of a quality product at this time. These scopes are quite suitable for big game hunting out to 300 yards.
