While cleaning the house of a deceased relative, one came across a box of 10 rounds in caliber .41 Rimfire. Never heard of such beast until now.

From what I got from the Net, it seems to be a civil war caliber for Colt and Derringer hand guns. Any .41 Rimfire shooters or collectors out there who could share some knowledge on these?

.41

I believe the orignal Reminton o/u derringer was chambered in that round,
as well as others , also I think the ist Henry rifle.
I am not a ammo collector, but should be worth good dollars, bepending
on the box if orignal.

Like most of the older rimfires, they are hard to find. You could probably offload them easily for between 1 to 3 dollars a cartridge.

Expensive ammo, right now for the navy arms stuff "relatively new manufactured .41 rimfire with brass cases" it goes for around $250 a box.

There are some nice .41 RF guns in CGN'rs hands and would likely love to take those rounds off your hands.

I'd be interested but I only shoot .32 and .38 Rimfire.

I paid $65 for a box of sealed Navy Arms, like new, that was at the Chilliwack gun show this year on the second day, meaning that stuff was sitting for over a day before I came and bought it, can't be that much demand I figure. Since you can reload them now, prices have been getting much weaker. It really depends on the condition and how desperate someone is.

Bringing this back to life ...

Had my hands on a Vetterli 10.4mmX38 Vetterli today. May be the same as the .41 RF. Dual strikers, pretty cool design. Ammo is more scarce than gold plated, diamond studded hens teeth.

Tubular mag, similar to Winchester.

You most likely have .41 rimfire. Mostly used in small hideout type handguns... anemic at best.

Old story goes there was a bar bet back in the day... a fellow would bet that a .41rf wouldn't shoot though an apple at close range. The apple would be set on the bar and shot. The bullet was moving so slow when it struck the intended target it would penetrate but not pass though the fruit, just skid it along the bar.

Also many old tales about the bullet being stopped by bibles, watches, wallets, tick coats, belts etc.

There is people who will pay big bucks for it... it would depend on brand, condition box or no box etc...

I had forgot about the 41 swiss, and thinking more about the Henry, they where 44 rim, I think, they are usually past my pay scale

I can vouch for the low power. I fired one from a Remington derringer at a piece of 1/8" Masonite at about 10 feet and it bounced off. I wondered if they were all like that or if I just happened to get a squib. It sounds like they're all like that.
