I like intresting belt buckles this one i got today at the thrift store is pretty cool check out the smoke poles and bear traps and the details.
I found another one that sold for $45 on the net so i did good on it ;)
I think i like my S&W one better but still its neat.
Was made in 1984 by the Siskiyou Belt buckle Co

Anyway thought some guys might find it intresting.
There great on cartridge belts.
The S&W ones like mine are hard to find but ebay has them now and then.

Belt buckles are interesting, I've picked up lots over the last 40 years, some rare and some more common, .....all say something about the wearer. Have four new in the box S&W's including the "Last Cartridge" that Dingus showed.

I think I have one identical to the first one pictured there. Won it at a rendeavous ages ago. Nice find!

PS. Be careful how you bend over when wearing it. Thats what I most remember...

That top buckle is awesome! I just picked up a new one the other day but havent been able to find one like that no matter where I look!

Mclean

I sure like them i use them on my cratridge belt and holster belt rigs so bending down is not really and issiue because them belts are so wide.

I like the S&W one best but i seen that trappers one for sale at a salvation army in there case display and grabed it just because of the details and i never seen one before like it.

Its neat the back has a story about trappers on it.

I always liked old belt buckles and the two in the post are very interesting. I have a number of old buckles in my collection. Today while rumaging around in an old junk shop on a back road to Nogales Mexico in Arizona I found this one which I had not seen before. It now has a new home. :)

The upper left corner says 1919 SOUVENIR across the bottom it says "MADE FROM SHELL CASE BRASS FROM 1916-18 WAR BY COLT FIREARMS CO."

DSC08406.jpg

Back has a Pat # and Serial # and Made in England by Bay State Jewelry and Silversmiths Co.

Anyone ever seen one of these before? Maybe if someone has Ogle's book, "Colt Memorabilia". maybe they can check it out. Most likely a fantasy item. :(

Just checked the Patent no 104,012 is for an 1870 "Improvement in Fire Hydrants" LOL

Here is a great site for research.

Thats very nice! I never seen one before.
Good one to hang onto :)

I have updated my original post with some more information about this buckle and the site that I have lisited in the OP is very interesting about bogus buckles. The one that I have is solid brass and it is mentioned that fake ones are pot metal and brass coated. I do have some original colt buckles that were sold by Colt but are not anything like alot of the ones I have seen.
Dingus; I believe SW did issued the buckle you have, very nice:), I like the wear.:D

Something made in England likely would be marked with the BRITISH patent number.

Is that the Patent Office you checked?

Or the American one?

People often mix them up.
.

You guys seem to know your buckles!
I've got one of those "trapper" buckles here - among others - is there any value to the others I have?

Hahhaaa, I thought I was the only one that had a collection of these things. That is a nice collection that you have.
I see the NRA boxed ones going for about $30 at gun shows in the US. Can't say much about the others but I'm sure there would be someone out there buying them. Best place to check is e-bay.
I picked up a couple more today at a yard sale, I like Indian head ones also. Usually only pay a couple bucks a pc.

Thanks for the input guys.
My Dad goes south in the winter and hits the odd flea market/garage sale, he brought these back from Arizona a couple years ago (along with a box of rifle scopes - he didn't know it was illegal )
I was supposed to sell them for him but they got stuck in the "collectables" box and I forgot about them until this thread popped up.
What do you think I should ask for the lot?

Next, I'll have to go through the scopes and see what I have there ;)
