Found Pic of LOFTUS from the ROYAL INNISKILLING FUSILIERS

Dingus, you have a wonderful keepsake made much more valuable with the Loftus photograph and the associated history. David Doyle described the Battle of Colenso during the Boer War where Loftus was killed. If you are interested in reading about this battle there is a recent publication that does it justice and includes a map of the battle field: "The Boer War" Thomas Pakenham, Weidenfeld and Nicolson Limited, 1979 (Reprinted in paperback by Futura Publications 1982, 1988)ISBN 070883663 1

I have a webley that is marked Ratcliffe 6th Devons, can't be sure which of 6 guys it belonged to but all the stories are interesting any way. The part that is extra cool about these old guns with Providence is that for each one easily researched there are 10,000 with as interesting a history. Eacjh one of these stories makes every other firearm more interesting.

6th Bn the Devonshire regiment, 11th of foot, also known as the Bloody 11th, amalgamated in the 1960's with the Dorsetshire regt, became last year light Infantry and next Feb become 1st Bn the Rifles.
