I've tried it the old way...wood ash/lime in a bucket of water...stirring it every couple of days...dirty/ stinky/ messy: is all I can remember.

And alot of work stretching it..while working in the neatsfoot oil.

His video for field dressing a deer is pretty good. I'm going to pass this on to my godson who will probably be doing it for the first time this season. Nothing beats watching on video how it it done before you are taught first hand, this way he can ask all kinds of questions before hunting season even starts.

The old way is a much more humbling experience. You dont have to use Ash/lime for the tanning process. There is a reciepe for using alfalfa for the solution.
