I have developed a recent interest in air rifles, started checking out this forum and various places on the web to get up to speed. Will be purchasing a .22 Diana shortly. In the meantime have ordered a Crosman 1322 for fun.

Anyway, while rummaging around at the family farm this weekend I found the first air rifle I ever owned. It was a Christmas present and must be easily over 40 years old if my memory serves me. I brought it home, took it apart for the first time ever, cleaned it up, oiled the stock and started shooting pellets again in the basement after a 40 year gap !!

It is a Webley and Scott "Jaguar" made in Birmingham U.K.

I am having a blast, thought you would enjoy a pic of the old girl.

I enjoy hearing these stories. Glad to hear you found it in good shape.

Mechanically it was fine, just very dirty. Some surface rust that came off with fine steel wool and oil. The stock finish was rough, flaking and peeled, some sort of dark stained varnish. I stripped it off and gave the stock a couple of coats of boiled linseed oil. Looks pretty good I think.

The only problem is that there is something wrong with the sights. I recall when I shot it as a kid they were just right...now 40 years later they are a little blurry and seem too small and it's hard to pick up a good sight picture......what's up with that ????:D

I hate to break it too you but apparently they aren't 40 year sights, I have found that my old guns sights don't work for me any more.:)

Great post! I remember shooting those same pellets back when I was a kid. Used to beg my dad to buy more of them at the Canadian Tire in Collingwood near our family cottage at the time. That would be about 33-35 years ago. Man I'm getting old! :)

Awesome walk down memory lane.

I still have my first airgun. Got it about 30 years ago. My brother wanted a "pump" crossman, and my Dad tried to talk him into a springer. I wanted a crossbow that year [that wasn't going to happen..I was 10], so my brother got his Crossman. I got a springer... after 15 minutes he regretted his choice [I still wanted a crossbow].

Awesome fun. Will never forget the "reward" [a good 'ol spanking] that came from poking holes through the barn's roof with it while shooting at pigeons.

It was tucked away in my barn for a decade or so...might as well be bottom of the Atlantic as far as "finish" was concerned. Front sight is pushed so far to the left it looks like it'll fall off the barrel, but shoots as well as ever. (leather plunger, not plastic. few drops of oil a year)

Oddly enough...it's sights seem to have shrunk too! I've also noticed they lowered all the fountains, and urinals at the public school I attended (where my son now goes) too!
