After changing jobs not long ago I wasn't sure I would be able to join my buddies this year for our annual waterfowl quest. Fortunately my supervisor approved 4 days off I requested in trade for a couple weekends so I was able to join the gang and get after some waterfowl with them.
The timing could not have been better and although the weather was a bit warmer than we all would have liked we were far from disappointed as their had been a large migration just days before and the fields and sloughs were full.
This year brought Snow Geese in untold numbers and Chad and I were able to put our meager 6 dozen Snow and Blue shells to good use. The white devils accounted for over a third of our take during the week and they sure are addictive to go after. Something tells me the spread will expand substantially for next season now that we have discovered the birds main migration corridors.
During my time off we covered a lot of ground, made many new landowner contacts and discovered a lot of new area to explore for future hunts. We saw both whitetail and mule deer, moose , coyotes every day and probably in excess of 150,000 snows within a 10 min radius of the areas we hunted most. It was quite a sight to see 10-20 thousand of them on a slough roosting or thousands feeding on a field while birds in a 360 degree radius filled the sky. If my pics are iffy I apologize as they were taken with my iPhone.
A field loading up with the White Devils!!
Packing it up after a successful morning....
Putting the new Snow shells to the test.....
A few Specks..... 5 in, 5 down!
Rick and Mike grabbing birds to put in the truck...,
A few birds....
Mature Blue, Lesser Canada and a Juvie Blue
A nice young Bull.....
A little late morning jump shooting on a typical western slough.
Another fine morning, a few Blues, a Snow and a few Canada's....
A few more.....
Now this is my idea of "White Water"!!
