What are you using for calling sequences? Which sounds? How long do you call before a pause or do you just let the machine keep playing? Basically what I want to know in full detail is how a tipical stand goes for you. I have gone to my usual spots that have been productive in the past and had no luck. Yet I can go out with two mouth calls and I bet I would see one. Never had any luck using electronics. HELP!!!

2-5 interrogation howls spaced over 3 minutes or so

silence for 3-5 minutes

pup distress or rabbit distress - 30-60 second bursts then mute for 2-3 minutes - repeat for 25-30 mins, with a few howls mixed in

I,ll give it a try.

Anymore suggestions from others?

I'm new to coyote hunting but it seems like lots of people have been productive with hand calls and switch to electronics and they don't seem to do as well. Is it just a coincidence?

I better keep an eye on this thread been having the same luck.
Which hand calls were you using, or was it your Predator Masters that was working well?

It doesn't matter if I use the prey master or the fox pro, I can't get them to come into sight. I take my lohman circe call and my lohman howler and I will see one. Can't say I called one in ever with the electrics! I have seen them with the prey master when my brother is controlling it, but not when I use it!!!!!

Maybe people are using the electric callers too much? This is all new to me.

early season till about mid January I stay away from howls as it seems to scare off the young stupid dogs in my expierience. I play the Jack distress or even woodpecker distress none stop and loud till they come in.
Comes Late Jan till June coyote vocalization works very well especially when dogs become very territorial during breeding.
I do use a group howl for scouting purposes alot to locate a group and plan a hunt in the area.
I think areas are different as well as hunting pressure, weather ect... so there is no set pattern. Go out experiment and have fun !!

Cheers!!

FYI. A friend of mine has always had good success calling until this year and he blames it on lack of snow making mice easier to catch?

We have a lot of snow here in Sask, but pretty mild temps, which some people thinks might make it harder to call. I hope to get out this week and see if it's true or not.

I've had my best success this year before the snow showed up. I don't think it's that though.

I've heard it all this year. Guys up north say too much snow guys down south say not enough.

I've been facing too much wind myself. That I know hurts the hunting.

As far as the question the topic starter asks....USE MORE HOWLS IF THE DISTRESS IS NOT WORKING.

Sorry didnt mean to yell:D

Is this happening to others as well?

I know a few guys around here that do a lot of calling and they, as well as, me have had very poor results lately. I was out 2 weekends ago and I saw two yotes but I could not get them to come any closer than 800 yards. So I have gone back to leaving the call at home and I grab the 7STW instead of the 243 and I just drive to areas I know have yotes and I wait until I see one.

I far as calling goes I use the FX3 Jackrabbit distress call for a minute at 5 minute itervals.

My brother used the Foxpro, continuous jack rabbit distress ( no breaks) -20 mins per session last week, for his best day ever - killed 5 coyotes and one fox in three spots. One other group of 5 coyotes spotted from a distance were not interested at all, though.
