Does anyone here have one and do you have any idea of a price for one in very good condition all matching. A very interesting looking rifle in 308 cal. Thanks for any information.

I have heard that is unwise to shoot commercial .308 Win in any Fr8 carbine. It seems the gun was converted to a cartridge dimensionally the same as a .308 but has much leass pressure. I believe the Fr8 only has two lugs and is no where near as strong as the K98 mauser. The only option would be handloading military brass to consideribly lower pressures. Can any experts help me out here with a more technical explanantion?

cheers Darryl

The FR8 was designed to shoot 7.62 NATO. It's a large ring Mauser action.

The myth of it being safe only for the bastard 7.62 CETME cartridge is just that, a myth.

Edit - Here's a link to a surplusrifle.com article explaining everything you need to know about the FR7 and FR8. http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting/spanishinquisition/index.asp

The MYTH continues:rolleyes:

Don't worry about shooting any commercial or modern military 308/7.62 ammunition. There are plenty of web sites that will discuss that poppycock better than I, regarding the FR8/FR7 rifles.

The FR8 is a great package. Compact rifle, that accepts stripper clips, oh ya, and a bayonet if you ever feel the urge to "go over the top":D .

Yes, they are cheap enough, which makes them ideal as a "truck" gun. Most that are in Canada, have a rougher exterior, but great bores. So if it gets a scratch or dent, who cares:) . It will still shoot, and that's all that matters.

Basically this is what Jeff Cooper describes when he is talking about a "Scout Rifle". Compact, and shoots at least a 308.

It can even accept an AR/M16 muzzle cover on it's flash hider (HK style BTW) to keep out any dirt, while it is in the truck or bush.

It also can utilize the HK sling, which IMHO is the best one out there for versatility.

I've pictured the plastic, shoot off cover, along with the HK sling that I leave on permanently.

If a guy wants to put on some optics, you could have the rear sight milled off and a picurweenie style base put on. But I like mine with the iron sight. Which was based on the CETME/HK style rotary disc.

A lot of guys will have the bolt handle bent/turned down, as they come stock, straight. I found a Mauser, K98 bolt at a store that was cheap enough, and checked the head space with gauges.

I put a couple hundred rounds through mine so far, and like it enough to take with me pretty well every where I go along with a pouch of ammo on stripper clips.

Please excuse the low quality pics:redface: . Also the noted dust is from it sitting in the case a lot.

aah, yes, Spain. The place where Nazis went to finish their guns ;) :D This will probably the next rifle on my list once I sell one of my current rifles.

I bought one back when they first came out. It was a very accurate little rifle, and well balanced. Their peep sight system is nicely thought-out and I enjoyed the gun very much. Only sold it to fund something else.

I love mine and shoot it all the time at distance with the iron sights. I really like the big open V shape battle sight for low light or quick shots with the option of dialing in a peep sight. I would take one of these over a #5 JC anyday.

Speaking of the peep sights what are the various peeps graduated to? 100m to 300m?

love the freight senior.

you forgot to mention they are capable of some pretty outstanding accuracy

I 'heard' the barrels are either HK or CETME made...very niiice

Well, I didn't want to brag about my 5 shot 1/2" group at 200m standing with one arm tied behind my back. And the target was moving:D .

But yup, it gave me very satisfying results. I did all of the shooting standing. There was too much snow on the ground to go prone, and we don't have benches for 200. I kept minute of man, and I was happy with it.

They come up semi-regularly on the EE. That's where I got mine.

IIRC there's a bubba'd one somewhere in the EE right now. Do a search and you should be able to find it.
