I saw these Mauser 98 25 round trench mags advertised on KeepShooting.com for only $30 USD

It snapped right into place, perfectly. Magazines tend to feed or not feed, depending on their lip condition. In the case of the Mauser, the feed lips are the rails of the receiver, not the magazine.

The tip of the magazine is just an empty box. It uses a clip to keep the follower and spring depressed while the mag is off the rifle, or being installed. Once installed, the clip is pulled and the follower pops up to the bottom of the rails.

It seems to be well made. I loaded it with 12 rounds and they fed just fine. However, it is a 8mm magazine, so almost a half inch longer than required for a 308. If the rounds are positioned at the back of the mag, they will not feed. I inserted them so the bullet tips were touching the front of the mag.

I will probably stick a 308 spring and follower in it fron FAL or M14 (a half inch shorter) and install a block at the back of the mag to keep the rounds forward.

I shoot some events where the standard 5 round capacity of the rifle is a pain. It will be nice to be able to load 10 or 12 rounds.

Might work better if you put the half inch block at the front of the mag just like the internal 8mm M98 Mauser mags converted to shoot .308 Win after you shorten the mag follower.

Get half inch thick strip of rubber off a old truck mudflap and glue it in, should work perfectly and protect soft pointed hunting ammo from deforming.

BTW, aren't you worried about owning and shooting one of those crappy Spanish Mauser's with their soft crappy steel actions and excessive headspace?

That looks awesome I have strength magazine but I only tried it on my Mauser going to put it on my fr8 now.

I have only played with it briefly. I first loaded it with the rounds at the back of the mag. They would not feed. With rounds forward, they fed just fine.

No, I am not worried about shooting 308 - 7.62 ammo in a M98. As it happens, the plinker ammo I load for matches is quite mild, so it is a non-issue.

I'm just kidding, I actually like those Spanish FR-8 rifles.

That looks like the mags that were offered by Corwin Arms a year or so ago for around a hundred bucks. He sold out very quickly and doesn't have them on his site any longer.

I thought they were $80 each, I considered getting one for awhile but never thought I would need that kind of fire power out of my mauser and when full must make your rifle damn heavy.

BTW keepshooting.com is still selling them for $29.95 USD.
