Hi there:
I recently bought a Caldwell bipod off a fellow range member/buddy and was attaching it yesterday while I was at the club to my Franchi Momentum Elite in .308. I had PRESUMED that the mount in the front of the gun that looked like a sling mount, would accommodate the Caldwell bipod, which is the standard one you would just align the two sides with the nubby thing into the sling hole on the front of the gun, then use the dial on the bipod to screw the two ends tight into the stud/mount hole. I have several other rifle on which I was able to successfully mount a bipod.
Here's the problem. I am not sure whether this piece was designed for a sling and bipod. I had the bipod mounted tightly and used tools to screw it tighter. It didn't budge after and I was able to swing the legs of the bipod towards me to lock it back and it didn't move. No play or movement.
But when I retracted the legs out and got set, and took the shot, almost evertime the bipod flies off the gun backwards after firing and the rifle starts to drop onto the bench - thankfully I caught it before the big thunk. I then take a look at the hole and notice it is stripping material off the sides of the hole on the exterior - on both sides.
I have taken some photos below...as you can see, that sling stud or mount is more than thick enough - perhaps maybe it is too thick.
I have to assume there is a way to mount a bipod on this thing. I'm just not sure whether that mount is the right place. I am not quite sure why it comes off so easily when, before the shot, it is very secure after being screwed in. It is only during the recoil of the shot that the bipod flies off.
Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Not sure if the photos will help, but here they are.
