Hi, I am struggling a bit with the Hand Primer which - otherwise - works extremely well.

Specifically with the No. 4 Shell holder, reloading Federal 223 cases with CCI 400 Primers (Small Rifle).

Before I blame the tool, I wanted to check if I am doing something wrong.

There seems to be a bit of play in the shell holder and without very careful alignment, I get chewed up cases and crookedly seated primers.

I have used it to great effect priming 30-30 and 30-06 without such problems.

On a related note : what is the best way to dispose of bent / broken primers ?

Did you reem/swage the primer pockets on the 223 case?

Some may have a military crimp or a ring, especially if you're using 556 cases.

This may case the primers to not seat properly or at all.

Someone told me that the Federal 223 cases have crimped primer pockets.

Looks like I will have to de-burr them first, before priming.

Oh well, at least Federal 223 is cheap.
