Hello everyone,
I recently pick up a French Lebel 1886/93 rifle in good condition that was re-barreled in 1918.
I have given it a wipe down with paint thinner to remove the grease on the stock, only to find a patchy varnish finish over very dry wood. Only 50 percent of the stock varnish is left and it looks horrible.
I was thinking of removing it and using raw linseed oil on the wood. Would that be correct for a Lebel rifle?
Silverplate.
