Any one have one . My first model 98 it's a svwmb all the numbers match but
No bayo lug or cleaning rod, sight hood. Looks like a mix of blue and phosphate. Try and post pics when i find my camera charger.:D

Im pretty sure your rifle was made at Mauser werke ag,oberndorf a/N. In 1945 they switched to svwMB. The deletion of the bayonet lug and cleaning rod and hole are mods to the rilfe, making it a "Kreigsmodell" or "war model" easier and quicker to make.

Why do you believe it to be french?

It's got a star and 5 digit serial no. On the reciver. The barrel has hege and 4 no. In different font .read on the web that the French took over the factory post war

So post war production. Nice rifle is its in good shape and all matching.

did the french reinstate the bayo lug ever?

Could be in a german kreigsmodell stock maybe.

Many European countries don't allow their milsurps to be sold with bayonet lugs.

With bayonet lugs, they are considered to be battle implements or assault weapons.

True bearhunter. I remember a Kar98A on here a while back that had the bayonet lug removed for that very reason.

I believe this rifle to be of the kriegsmodel pattern as the French would have made the Kar98k pattern that was last used on the active production line. The phosphate finish seems to also support that as well.

.
The French made the 98 Mauser at Mauser Werke starting in June, 1945. These rifles were marked SVW45 and SVW46. Many were used in Indochina between 1946 and 1954.

.

What is the serial number and block? Any waffenamts or german firing proofs? There are lots of 5 digit serials made by the germans from svwmb. All dependent on the serial and block.
Also does yours have the french style attachment?
