hey all, so i've decided to get into the reloading game for myself and maybe a buddy or 2 that i shoot with. anyways, i purchased a dillon 550b after doing some reading and see how popular they are. my buddy uses a cheap single stage setup and i had no interest in going that route, takes him hours to do less than 100.... my press is coming with the gear to do .357, and .45lc, but im planning to reload quite a few different calibers, 9mm, 30-30, 308, 30-06, 45acp, 45-70 maybe and im sure there will be more lol. anyways, im wondering about a few things from fellow nutters. anyone know of good places for cheap bullets (im fine with cast), primers, etc. im also looking for a tumbler, a scale, etc.

what all would i need to change to different caliber, besides the dies. what about going from handgun to rifle?

check out henry from budget shooters supply for cheap plated bullets by berry.

custom reloading as well, i think they are in bc.

if you dont mind cast, why dont u cast your own ..I started using jacketed at 138.00 for 1000 delivered at my door then found somebody to cast for me at .10 cents each..Now i cast my own for next to nothing apiece.u can buy a bottom drop 10 lbs pot for 40 bucks ebay and molds from Lee for 38.00 each...then all u need is lead or wheel weights...I can make 1000 rounds of 40 cal in about 3 hours just taking my time... I can cast 3000 40 cal 175 grain boolits for roughly $25.00...worse thing about wheel weights is separating the stems and zink weights from the good weights.then heating the good stuff up to get the clips off .I do that on an old turkey frier and and old pot before u drop the lead into your smelting pot....lots of good info at boolitcasting.com

You've made the major investment. To switch calibres, all you will need are new dies, a new shell-holder and new components.

For calibers you load frequently, you want a toolhead for each caliber, so you can install and set your dies just the once. You will need a shell holder plate for each caliber, but some calibers share the same shell holder. from memory, I think 9mm, 223 and 40 S&W use the same holder.

It will save converting the powder thrower charge bar from pistol to rifle powder to have two powder throwers. the pistol bar maxes out around 15 grains.

toolheads for each caliber are the easiest so there is no die set-up.

Need to change between large and small primers, need to switch between large and small powder volume bar, and need to change shellplate in some cases.

Take your time when making the switch.
