I was originally going to setup on the top field but after looking down into this frozen swampy area (seeing all the tracks) I decided to setup up right in the swamp itself. I knew if something showed up there was a good chance it was going to be in close. With the wind blowing across my face from left to right I decided to put the decoy on my far left but slightly (5 yds) forward just in case a coyote came from the top and that’s exactly what happened. This swampy area goes from concession to concession. I thought a coyote would be coming right along the frozen creek but it didn’t, they came in from just in front of me and to my right (top field)….
I seen the first coyote when she was right in front of me less than 15 yds away (didn’t see her before that at all) She stopped right in front of the little bush less than 10 yds away. I tried get my scope on it but that little bush was just too dense to see through. I waited (what seemed for a good while but was probably 4 or 5 seconds) then she stepped out and took a step toward the decoy allowing me to put it behind her front shoulder. She started spinning biting at the wound; I chambered another round and noticed a second coyote running away down through the swamp. I tried to stop it (foxbang did not kick in) with some loud wolf wolf sounds but it got out of sight pretty quick….
Enjoy the pics… :)

Great job. Always good to see how you set up and invariably it seems to work out well. Interesting that the tone didn't change with the shot.... Please keep the posts coming with info and set up diagrams.

I just want you to know that your stories and photos are appreciated! The fact that you take the time to take the photos, edit the photos, post the photos, AND include a write up often on the same day as your hunt speaks volumes as to the type of hunter and person you are. A tip of my hat to you sir and I hope you never tire of posting your hunts because many of us will never tire of reading about them.

Thank you for the kind words....

Hi Frank notice you are from southwestern ontario area, I have hunted the Kitchener area in previous years and had some pretty good success. Recently moved to the the Sarnia area and have not been as successful. Just some questions,on average how many stands do you make? How long are your average stands? and when do you feel you get the most responses am's or pm's ? One more how is your kill count this winter and how often do you get out calling? I guess 2 more questions LOL

Recently moved to the the Sarnia area and have not been as successful. Just some questions,on average how many stands do you make? I usually make one if I am lucky I can do two stands an outing....... How long are your average stands? I usually leave after 25-30 mins... but have stayed on a stand longer...and when do you feel you get the most responses am's or pm's ? This year its PM and thats only because I have doing most of my hunting in the PM.... I think the first 2 hours of the morning and the last hour of daylight are the best.....One more how is your kill count this winter.....pretty good but if I didn't miss so much it would be a lot better... and how often do you get out calling? I try and get out twice a week....... I guess 2 more questions LOL

Best of luck
