Friggin Canadian Tire

My favorite part about buying ammo at Canadian tire is that a staff member carries a single box of shells from the back of the store to the front till fo you. Then if you are not done shopping you get to find the till that has your box of shells. Complete waste of time. I think it is supposed to be for safety??

Quit screwing around with amateur dealers that don't know one end of a firearm from another, unless you live close to the Can Tire store in Kenora, forget it. Stick with a gunshop that makes it's liveing on guns and gun related stuff. Preferrably a full service shop. For the very few if any dollars you save going to crappy tire or wal mart, you will save yourself a lot of frustration and get what you want, unless of course you're more interested in the little old lady or maybe sweet young thing behind the counter. bearhunter

Yeah. Support the specialty shops.
I walked into the only gunshop that's open 7 days a week in Victoria (theres one other gunshop, but he's only open on weekends) and asked for .32 S&W Long, just as a formality. I didn't expect they'd have any.

But they did. Special order for some other guy that wanted a box. So they bought 3 boxes. I got 50 rounds for $30 plus tax. Not the best price in the world, but it supports the local guy.

More importantly than anything else, it's self preservation.

You don't support these guys, they'll go out of business. Then all you'll have for retailers are big box stores that don't care about guns. They care about profits.

And eventually, some genius in the think tank will say "Lets reduce our liability and stop selling gun supplies."

The CDN Tire I go to puts the ammo in a sealed green bag and the employee places a small lock on it and hands it to me. No escorts

Different stores different policies I guess.

Yup, they put ammo in the sealed bags here to, and then the tills have a special key to unlock it.

Having said that I still would prefer to support local gun-shops.

funny that this comes up today as my mom emailed me this morning to say that she had tried to shoot a skunk with the old farm 22 but the ammo wouldn't fire, what should she do?
i went through the whole hangfire/old ammo dealy with her in my response
so then she phoned me later in the day to say that she had just gone to C-tire and bought ammo!! i was boggled to say the least, no PAL ever, and the dude didn't even ask for one....
gotta love it....

One store walks it to the till, another 80km away puts it in the loackable bags which you can walk around with, and a third within 10 minutes of the second has a till at the gun counter and you pay and get the ammo in a clear shopping bag. Same idea behind this as why we have tamper proof seals on Tylenol and a 'no return' policy...

Further, I bought some Nosler Partitions just the other day that had 'factory sealed for your safety' on them...

It all works for me just fine.

All of the stores in the Toronto area (yeah, yeah, I know...) lock it in the security-deposit-type banking bag AND have the clerk carry it to the till at the front of the store. Makes me feel safer just writing this.

Of course, they have no problem selling a twelve year old kid a gallon of muriatic acid or an axe, no questions asked.

up north, even ontarioland, they just say..well sir, it's yours. Aren't you putting them in a bag? <<< no we're not busy today!!!

Wallmart is different. Here comes a guy who can't read the caliber off the ammo box- clearely without the right to come in contact with that ammo... bu handing me down the boxes.... so he is not in possesion, but what about safe handling? plus of that I don't think he was 18.

bu twe don't complain, because if we did - trying to get those people a chance to get the PAL for free - the stores would rather not carry any type of ammo... so we shut up and take it..... can't wait for Cabela's to open here, see if they would adopt basspro BS policy...

It is a fiasco to buy from Can-Tire but atleast the ammo is sold cheaper than most athers sell it for.Thats what keeps the people coming back.

Sorry, but with the 4 trips that involved your time and gas, and you still don't have your ammo, I don't see your point.

You didn't know Crappie Tire sold us out years ago! A lot of them don't even sell ammo anymore.

The only Crappie Tire that sells a good assortment of ammo & reloading supplies(yes, reloadind) is in Kenora Ontario.

Support your local gun shop instead.

It's easy to understand that people want to save money and buy where the price is lowest BUT when it comes to guns and ammo, PLEASE support your local gun shop. Yes it will likely be more expensive but these people have to stay in business and can't compete with the big box stores on price. They can on knowledge and service. They will likely make every effort to get you exactly what you want, not just look into a glass case and say, "hmmm looks like we're out of that", or "hmmm doesn't look like we carry that" and walk away.

Ask yourself, does CT or WM really care about us gun owners? Do they sell their ammo at the lowest cost they can because they like us? Will it hurt them if no one ever buys ammo there again?

Now ask yourself these same questions about your local gun shop.

Where are you going to go for help, advice, specialty orders if your local gun shop closes. Will CT or WM be there for you?

I am not rich, I like a deal like everyone else, BUT, when it comes to firearms and ammo, I will spend the extra $$ and support my local gun shop(s), not the big box stores that don't give a rats a$$ about me and the plight of firearms owners accross this Country. Keep spending your money at these big box stores and your local gun shops will close. Spend your money wisely, think about the bigger picture and long term consequences, not just how much can I save on this box of shells today. If you really want to help "fight the fight" and support firearms owners in Canada, don't ever buy guns or ammo from CT or WM, support your local guys, these are the people that really care about us.

Ammo prices at Canadian Tire are crazy high. At least they are in Calgary!

Around here they do the whole 'escort to the front' as well. What a retarded rule. What are they afraid you will do? I get posession of the box as soon as I'm at the cashier, so what does this prevent?

If you want a good selection of ammunition ,go to a real hunting or shooting store. If you insist on going to Canadian tire or Wallmart for ammunition, you aren't being realistic if you expect to find a good selection and knowledgeable staff.
