I had the pleasure of handing out another 25 straight patch at skeet tonight. But the surprising part, is that previous to tonight, the shooter had never shot better than 16. Then tonight he shows up with a new Citori CSX with adjustable comb, and after adjusting the comb to get the pattern centered for him, he shot a 22. Quite the improvement from 16, but the next round was a 25. Even he was surprised at just how much better he was shooting with the new gun. He had asked weeks ago how to improve his scores, and after patterning, and looking at gun fit, we discovered that he was shooting way left, and high because the gun did not fit him.

I bet he was happy driving home.

He was happy when he arrived, because he had a new shotgun, then he was even happier when he shot the 22, and when he shot the 25, and I called him over to preset him with the patch, I don't think he could have been much happier. He started shooting skeet for the first time this spring, and he hasn't missed a day since, he really enjoys it.

I guess whoever it was that said "you shoot with the barrels but hit with the stock" knew a thing or two about the importance of shotgun stock fit !!!

The CSX has to be one of, if not the best value in a clays gun. I'm betting he also had some good instruction also.

It’s great to hear of a shooter improving greatly because of a solid equipment upgrade. Making that straightforward connection is often quite difficult.

The CSX s definitely one of the best values in clays guns, and his gun actually has very nice wood, rather than the typical 2x4 grade wood many new Brownings have. And he purchased it on sale for $2500, which is a great price f0r the adjustabe comb model.

Not one shooter was wearing a hat, and shooting hats for 25 straight has not been a tradition here. When I started shooting, we shot hats for 100 straight, at our club.

Not one hat?

It’s common for AAA or master class to not where a vest but haven’t seen a no hat squad yet.

It's a shame that a lot of new shooters have the "I'll buy a cheap gun to see if I like it" attitude. They then go to the range with a gun that doesn't fit, handles like a telephone pole, beats them to heck with recoil, and that's the experience they use to decide if they like clay target shooting !!! Many of them give up at that point.

I always have more than one shotgun with me, and if they're discouraged, I always offer to let them try a different gun. Most find using a Remington/Browning/Beretta to be a more positive experience than a cheap gun.
