So for a long time I was a 1911 guy. I didn't start there, I came through sigs, glocks, rugers etc and landed there. The last one I owned was a dan wesson vbob. Well, I needed money and decided I would go down to one hand gun, that ment I needed something absolutely reliable no matter what. So now I settled on the mp45 (can't get over the 45acp round). It goes bang every time, is nice and accurate, but it is no piece of art. It has gaps everywhere (I know this helps reliability) and big clunky plastic parts. When I look from the rear of the gun at how the Dan Wessom slide made love to the frame, and compare that with the odd sort of coming together of the mp, I can't help but be a little disgusted. No gun is a 1911, but a 1911.

I have both a 1911 and M&P. My 1911 has lived in my safe for years since getting the M&P. The M&P is so accurate, light, comfortable with interchangeable grips, and reliable... the gaps you mentioned are for reliablility in dirt etc... it is a combat gun and is not meant to be pretty.
