The "Handloader", Ammunition Reloaders Journal, #240, April 2006, page 46, a qoute from the gun writer, Mike Venturino on his his article about ".303 British" :

"Some (.303 British) barrels made in England's Long Branch factory also have right-hand twist"

So far I know, Long Branch is not in England, but in Ontario :)

Otherwise not a very impressive article about the .303 British cartridge and the Lee-Enfield rifle. Way more useful info about the .303 British cartridge and the Lee-Enfield rifle in these fine pages :)

An awful, awful piece of work.

Here's another example: the Enfield's "springy action" caused premature brass failure. What??!! I suggest that the F/L sized brass failed because the generous chamber was tailor made for neck or partial F/L sizing. Basic reloading. There are many more mistakes I can't recall just now.

And of course, pandering to the American crowd, and not being a Springfield or Garand and in 30/06, the Lee Enfield is described essentially as "wierd looking, clunky, etc.".

Typical.

BTW guys - this really should have been posted in general guns - this is the POLITICS section, and this isn't really a political story :) I'll leave it here - but just for the future if you run into somethign similar maybe put it in general.

Most of Mike Venturino's stuff is hohum............he survives only because of the good ole boys club that exists in many of todays editorial departments. When the editor changes the new boy comes with his slate of buddies....only a few of the old gaurd that cannot be ousted will remain. They are all signed in as 'staff writers' and the holes available (which are few) are for freelancers.

One more from Mike V.

Carlos: You are exactly right. I re-read that piece several times and never
saw the mistake until the article appeared in the magazine. Then I said
"Whoops!"

If you go on that website- apoligize to the Canadians for me.
Thanks.
Mike V.

"On Mike Venturino's 303 article.

Many Canadians were shocked to find out that the Long Branch factory in Toronto, Ontario, Canada was actually in England, of all places! Which town by the way?
None more so than those poor, deluded souls who drove by it so many times in their lives to and from home and work in the greater Toronto area over some 60 odd years.

Talk about a cover-up! Next thing you know, we will find out WWII started on Dec 6th. 1941 and not Sept 1st 1939!

A Sarcastic Canuck."
