Hi My Name is Nate and I live in Regina. I'm an American living in Canada trying to figure out these "crazy" gun laws. They're really not too different from US laws. Basically full auto is illegeal in both countries. There is a big difference with silencers though. Last I checked they're legal in 38 of the 50 states. Now if I can just get my hands on a ruger SR 556!

I don't think the gun laws in Canada are bad. There are some things we could do without (long gun registry for starters). And it would be nice to legally carry my pistol. When I lived in GA it was completely legal to keep a loaded pistol in your car as long as it was in plain view or in the glove box or center console with no license. Just made me feel safer.

Hi guy, welcome to the land of soup & nutz. We be the nutz. What end of town be you in?

Hello and welcome. I hold citizenship in Canada and the US, but lived in the US until 2006. The big differences I've found are that instead of all the different state laws, Canadian law is federal, the way guns are regulated (once you own them) is much stricter here, and there is actually a licensing program that stresses safety. But as you wrote, it doesn't seem a whole lot different. And it's true that when it comes to transferring a gun from the US, the laws there are draconian. As a collector, the thing I miss the most is the kind of recognition that exists in the US for collectors. Enjoy this site.
