I came across a set of sights...

Does anyone know who made this front globe sight?
It has no markings that I can find, and I don't see one like it doing an on-line search.
It has a spring-loaded inner ring that can be squeezed to release the inserts. Quick and clever.
Pretty simple dovetail mount, nothing elaborate or expensive-looking about it.

With it is a Redfield rear peep, "olympic" model. These any good?
Needs a little cleaning up, but I think it could be in excellent condition afterwards.

They're not for sale, but I wonder what they are worth, if anything.

The Olympic is a great sight , yes.
As far as the front globe goes however, I am at a loss, never seen anything like it before.
I may have an extra mounting block form the Redfield rear if you plan on using it.

I’ll probably use it on a project. That front sight came with a pile of inserts, which is cool.

on another note, I’ve got a cil/Anschutz 190 That also has a front globe but no inserts.
Any body know where to get those?
Thanks!

The front sight looks like a lower grade target sight. Not the grade of Anschutz's higher machined products, but serviceable nonetheless. I would offer that it came off a CIL sporting rifle.

On the subject of inserts. Posts for round bullseyes are OK, but your groups will be vertical as the eyeball won't automatically keep the exact same space under the black from shot to shot. Round apertures are much better in those circumstances. The trick is to play with a range of sloppy wide open inserts down to almost impossibly tight ones to find the right one for the light conditions and varying sizes of the black. When I was shooting DCRA style, I got into the habit of recording my apertures in my scorebook. When I was shooting sporting rifle as a junior, I don't think I ever changed.

Shooting smallbore, the only time I switch insert size was when going from indoor to outdoor.

I'm kind of partial to the Slimline clear insert

I know this is an older thread, but I have just seen one of these in the wild... on the front end of a newer CIL Anschutz 180. It takes the same inserts as the sight on the front of my Brno Mod. 4; so Lyman/Williams will have extra inserts. Not sure what rifle the side mount redfield goes on.
