What is the best way to deal with a flat top 16" AR that I want to scope, but the fixed front sight post will interfere?

I have a LONG Leupold 8.5-25X50 LRT.

Have you mounted the scope and does the front sight actually interfere? Give it a try, you might be surprised how well it will work.

Or is physically in the way of even mounting it? If that is the case, get a low profile gas block.

co-witness... I like my front Troy BUIS lining up with my Aimpoint dot..helps alittle bit.. Dont look at it and maybe it wont bother you as much..

I don't mind co-witnessing my EO or an Aimpoint, but the front post will not let me move the Leupold scope ahead far enough for eye relief. I'll even need a special rail mount for the scope (LaRue SPR, etc).

How do I change the front sight/gas block? (sorry, I'm a newb...)

IF you have a scope that is more than 3x the front sight post will ghost out.

If you have a sight between 1.25 and -3x you may have an issue...

Kevin...I can see past the scope no prob....the thing is that it physically wont fit....the scope is a 15.5" long Leupold with lots of eye relief and I need to use this puppy prone in Service Rifle....

Maybe I should just use my 4-12X Bushnell !!!

Forgeting your 8.5x25 power scope is borderline overkill for precision rifle never mind service rifle.....Does this monster have a sunshade on it perhaps?
Maybe unscrew that from your hubbl..., I mean scope, and maybe it will fit within the constraints of the front sight. -Or you could try a longer barrel. 48" should match up with that scope nicely;)

LMAO the attack of the hubble........... if you want to use the scope cut off the front sight

.... or get a different scope? Nothing personal, but why would you want a scope like that on a carbine you're going to use in Service Rifle?

Sheesh -- I though Savage had a hubble, then he was surpased by Andrew (sorry I forgot your screen name)

IF you want to use that scope - you will need a low profile gasblock (or dremel/grind off the FSB)

Way too much scope for service rifle. You'll have major problems finding your target on certain matches, even with it dialed all the way down to 8x (match 4 comes to mind, among others).

If you've got your heart set on high magnification than I'd probably go with a 3-9x but it isn't neccessary. In my (limited) experience, the guys with the fancy space guns don't do any better than the guys who (like me) use the 3.4x Elcan on their issued rifles. Their scores might be a little better at the 500m mound but the military guys will still beat them overall.

I still don't understand why this scope won't fit. Are you trying to mount this on a carbine gas system? Definately overkill!! Get yourself a low power variable scope like 1-4x or 1.5-5x. Just my 2cts. Your money is better spent on ammo and trigger time.

I'm shooting the Elcan again this year... no more Leupold, well maybe an MR/T 1.5-5x20mm but the Elcan for now.

oh, oh... You ready to have your ass kicked at the 400 & 500m points?
