Hey gun nuts

I have a Colt commander 9mm..........and the front sight keeps comming off. I tryed to hammer the tabs on the inside of the slide, but it just came off again. I have tried crazy glue, lock tight............but nothing will keep it on. I can get about 25 rounds through and it comes loose again.

Any one have any suggestions they would be great

It may have to be be replaced with a new sight and staked with a proper tool made for the job. The key is using the tool make for the job. Simply whacking at it with a punch will not work.

Barring that it may be able to be silver soldered in place from underneath.. a very tricky job to do without marring the finish and having to reblue the slide.

Sorry, but you are most likely going to need a new site. The new one needs to be properly swaged into the slide. Gunnar at Armco is a good one to see.

1911 front sight

The best permanent solution is to get a dovetail sight cut in the slide so you can use dovetail sights instead of the tenon mount front sights. Virtually all the new semi-auto handgun makers have gone to this style. They have the added advantage of being somewhat adjustable for windage.

Any competent machinist/gunsmith should be able to do it at reasonable cost. Check around for available dovetail front sights and pick a sight cut angle (I think the most common are 60 and 65 degrees) that has a variety of sights available.
