Well. I have a couple of Norc AR-15's. I would like to remove the carrying handle & front sight on one of them. No biggie. I understand how to do it, etc, and I've watched a bunch of Youtube videos. No problemo. It's a 14.5" barrel. At the same time, I want picatinny rails so I can put a front grip on it, so I'll do that as well. The one thing I can't find a direct answer on is the gas block. If I remove the standard front sight on the gun, and change the forend, do I have to order another component for the gas block? Or is there something left I can re-use? Excuse my stupidity; I can't seem to find a clear answer. In my younger days I'd just tear everything apart and deal with the fallout after but not so much any more. Thanks in advance for the help.

You will need to order a 0.750" low profile gas block. You can salvage the roll pin and gas tube from the existing rig but doesn't hurt to get a backup roll pin in case you frack up the original one.

If you don't care for the A2 gas block anymore, you can dremel off the front sight posts and bayonet lug and give it a coat of paint. You save on not having to buy a new LPGB and having to hammer out the pins to remove the original one.

The consensus with Norcs is that the gas block is on tight - very tight. It may be a good idea to simply dremel off the front sight tower as noted above. Take your time and don't go overboard and you'll end up with a very solid, low profile gas block.

Just wanted to say thank-you, all. It worked perfect. I took my time, cut off the front sight, and then used a grinding stone to clean it up and match the contours of the gas block. All I had was gloss black Tremclad for now, and that worked. I'll pick up some flat black manifold paint this week, sand it and repaint it to match. Worked perfect - I owe y'all one.

Yep thats what i did for my troy alpha rail, and tberes is no sturdier gas block then that front sight lol is it ever a pain to get off. I was smoking it on my first build just smoking it and i swear i screwed up most of my fingers.

all that needs to be done is heat up a little with a propane torch or a heat gun and the pin tap out useing a small tak hammer . and as well to take off the site base.
