Frontier bullets?

Funny you should ask...
A member was shooting them at the RA Centre IPSC Level 2 match today and the rifling was cutting through the plating and the bullets were keyholing pretty bad...
In defense of the Fronteirs...this was the only time I have ever seen it happen with this brand...
I was much more common with the West Coast which had a thinner plating.
He was shooting a CZ Standard...

The consensous over on enos is that once you go over 900fps you get problems. The frontier site show a new match bullets with twice the plating on it, I sent Marstar an w-mail seeing if they were going to bring those in.

It's all I shoot in practice, so does Jim S. and Peter S. here. We don't have any problems with them.
(Jim uses them for matches) They even group well.
All are being fired out of STIs.
IPSC1 did some testing with Frontiers and found that Montanas tended to better in the accuracy department at about 20m out, but closer and for practice, there didn't seem to be any reason not to use the cheap bullets.
I did get Excels and West Coast plated bullets in the past; they were lucky to group on an IPSC target at 20m.

Never had an issue (though I was at the match today same squad as the gent Quigley refers to below).
Accuracy is fine, this is a 20 round group at 20 yards shot 2 handed. Hmm, If only I could do this every time
I measured a bunch and they all came out the same OD and within a grain of 180. Admittedly all out of the same box - I've not checked lot to lot variations.

Work great for me, never had a problem with keyholing or such. Most guys at my club use them now.
I use them all the time in my .40,with no problems and I have also used them in Ben's 38 super (not lately) 124 grain at over 1300fps and havn't had any issues withh plating stripping'but the montanna gold are more accurate,one of the other guys here uses them in his 2 9mm major guns at the same speed with no issues.
I shoot frontier 180s for practice and Montanas for matches.
No issues, they work great in my Edge.
A few extra $ for the Montanas for those long poppers IPSC1 always throws at us.

Edit: WSP and 5.5 of 231 with 180 RNFP loaded long gives about 980FPS for me.

Beh....I regularly blow 115's out of my Glock at over 1250 fps. The plating holds up fine.
I used to use the 180's in my Para and the first batch did have the odd jacket that would detach. Later batches had a noticably thicker plating and the problem did not re-occur.

I've shot thousands throught Glock barrels (G17, G22 and G37's) and have nothing but good things to say about them. Never had any problems with them stripping off, although I don't load super hot, just enough to make major. I think the 900fps they have problems comment is bull, I've never had any issues what so ever, from 9mm velocities up to 1250fps.
My .40 load uses the 180gr. FP and 4.5gr. Titegroup and ballistically is my top load, I can't duplicate it with any other components, I've tried everything, it out performs all factory ammo I have tried, the chrony stats on my load are unbelievable! Extreme spread of 15fps, SD of less than 3!
For the money they are great bullets, accuracy is good and they quality of the bullets is excellent.

They work but they are not accurate
My pistol and old 1911 shoots about 5 inches at 25 yards with the frontier bullets. 45 acp. It shoots about 3 inches with cast lead bullets at same range. 5 inches is good enough for ipsc however.

I use Frontiers in my 9mm,work very well and I cant really see much difference in accuracy between Montanas and them,so I use them exclusively.Only problem is that they seem hard to find at the present.Cant say that I had much luck with them in my 38 super however,lots of keyholing at 10 yards.It seems that these problems start becoming an issue when one goes over about 1300fps.
All in all I really like the Frontier product and they do save a few dollars over the Montanas
