Frontier CMJ Game Ranger bullets

No they are not soft points. They are a flat points. We just got through trying them out in some milsurps. At first glance I was not impresed but proof was on the paper and they shot much better than I expected. We were able to produce 3" groups at 100 meters with iron sighted milsurps. Shot a few at steel plates at 50 meters and they flattened out. Lined up 10 sand filled 4 liter jugs and they passed through 6 of them with very little damage to the bullets. (very little expansion). I feel they are a good deal for the price.

So I'd guess they're not legal for hunting? I believe the jacket is electroplated on, how thick would you say is is compared to a FMJ?

I have no way of measuring the plating but by looking at them I would think they wold be thicker than other plated bullets I have seen. Also if you want penetration from a hunting bullet these should work fine.

"...believe the jacket is electroplated on..." Plated bullets aren't jacketed. Berry's Bullets run 3.5 to 8 thou thick. Frontier's will be close to that. They're ok for hunting using cast bullet data only.

Basically what I'm wondering is this, do we treat these bullets like FMJ's, or is the plating soft enough to be treated like lead? Where I hunt it is law to use expanding type bullets ie;hollow point, soft point, cast, etc. But FMJ are illegal, as I would assume in most provinces. I also cast my own bullets, and if I had to load these down to cast velocities, then I may as well hunt with my cast bullets.

I have pushed 25 of these bullets in excess of 2,400 fps without cleaning and there was no ill effects and all landed in the same grouping. As far as legality goes with these I would check with your local authorities to be safe.
