Just had my second Leupold variable scope develop a frozen power ring.I have had these scopes 10+ years. An idea how/why this happens. Sent the first one in for repair and they just replaced it with a new scope.When I get time I'm going to send the second one in. I'm just really curious why. These scopes for the most parts are used on range toys, a Ruger 22 the other on a K31.

Frozen power ring cause??

In order to prevent (minimize/reduce) reticle shift when you change the 'power' the moving internal 'cells' have extremely small tolerances between the tube and various internal components. When the grease begins to dry this can result in binding....as can very minor oxidation(corrosion) that can happen under some conditions. Also over tight rings or small dents in the exterior of the tube 'can' sometimes obstruct the free movement required for the power ring to function.

Excellent scopes with a great warranty. Yours have been around the block a few times.
I would send it in quick just to get it back on the rifle. Not perfect, but worth the money. IMOHO

KORTH fixed it! Got scope back, needed D ring greasing. They even enclosed a little diagram showing where scope was zeroed when they received it and they returned it to that zero. Turn around time" RECEIVED NOV28, DATE OUT DECEMBER4!!! In my mailbox Dec 7. no charges. Great service is all that I can say. Leupold is fine by me for workaday scope.
