Greetings All! I'm a currently-kitting up Soon to be German WW2 Reenactor. But holy Iron Cross' Batman!, Am I frustrated. I possess a PAL for restricted and non restricted weapons. I'm trying to find a weapon my character can use, but Id rather not have a plain old Mauser 98K (Though can't find a German one Locally-Being in Victoria BC)
What I'd Like is A Mauser G-3 or an MP-44 thats been converted back to Restricted status. (No full auto). Or a Blank firing MP-40/MP-44, But I'm unsure if Blank firing ONLY weapons are Prohibited? I'd also accept dewat MP-40/44's if I could find one? Or the Japanese Build-em-yourseld steel model kits of the MP-40/44. Problem so far, is none of this stuff seems to exist on the West Coast? Any Re-enactors have this problem? Also, the Law seems a bit fuzzy to me anyway, about replica weapons. I'd even take an Airsoft MP-40/44 if I could find one, but I've had some police say they are now Prohibited, some say not. Legalese about this confuses me.
Well, if anyone can Assist with weapons/replicas/dewat/airsoft sources, or the Correct legalese definitions around Airsoft, dewat's, etc. I suuure would appreciate the help!! I'm also at jwja@telus.net. Cheers and HAppy New Year to All! Regards-Jamie

I hope you have some deep pockets if you are looking for originals. None of those things listed go for under $1000. Many of them go for much more.

I also think that a Semi-auto Mp40 or Mp44 is a 12(5) prohib that does not fall under restricted status.

The cop was probably thinking fully automatic BB guns when you said Airsoft, not plastic recreational BBs that are getting more popular than Paintball.

I know a guy who is big in airsoft, Maybe he knows something about Canadian outlets for the stuff. I'll get back to you, unless someone else gets to you first.

Good place to start would be here: http://www.airsoftcanada.com/

I wasn't aware there was much reenacting in Victoria...

There is a group that puts on a good display at Ft Rodd hill in the summer, mixture of 1800 British to WWII Canadian, with one guy playing a doctor from the 1870, which is a cool role.

the WWII types demostrated the Bren & Sten being fired (blank) They also had a PIAT AT weapon, but didn't have a BFA for it so they could fire blanks. :D

Ft. Rodd hill is really lame. They make you pay to get in there.

Back when I was a tot (tader tot?) my Dad and I would go there for lunch. For free.

Haven't been in there since they made you pay. Douchebags.

MAny thanks to all whom replied, Most appreciated. I realize Original weapons would be pricey, But replicas just don't cut it on the battlefield....KAR 98 K's occasionally crop up here, But I was pipe-dreaming for something different. Replicas/airsoft/dewats would just be for static display/Photo shoots. No, Very little reacting in Vic., espescially Axis Units. Have to take the boat across to Wash./Oreg. Sadly, unless someone on here is interested in starting up a Unit in Vic.? Well, so Far apperas I'm SOL about anywhere I've looked. Now customs is landing hard on Airsoft even. (See link kindly enclosed by 762Russian-Thanks!) Well, Again-If anyone has thoughts about the weapons/Replicas/dewats/airsoft I mentioned, Please do reply. Thanks again, And Best Regards to All-JHW

Almost everything you listed is a prohibited device in Canada, so forget about ever having one that isn't welded into a paperweight ;)

As much as I hate paying for anything, I can hardly call Ft Rodd hill lame, it is the only restored coastal defence fort on the West Coast of Canada. Work point, Third beach, Yorke Island and the 2 forts at Prince rupert are all unrestored. A small amount of work has taken place at the remaining gun postion at UBC.

There are dewat mp40's come up from time to time...I saw one at the ug nshow a few years back for $400...wish I snatched it up. The last one I saw on the EE was around $1800 I believe.

There is no such thing as a full auto converted to restricted. It would still be prohibited as a 12/3 converted auto unfortunately. I would like to think that it could change back someday but I'm not holding my breath. The best one could hope for is to be allowed to take converted autos to the range again. I have seen many dewats for sale at the HACS shows in Burnaby and Coquitlam for prices in the $500 and up range but mostly British stuff, Stens,Brens ect. There is also quite a bit in the black rifle forum dewated as I bought several there recently. I do know a guy locally (North Van) that collects and sells WW2 German stuff but he usually wants top dollar for it. I have had some luck getting stuff from International Military Antiques in the States over the web. They sell lots of German stuff. I have only brought in machine gun mounts and not dewats but in all arrived without hassle. Dumb luck?
Good luck.

Yeah. But it's a difference between me probably going back there just once more in my life (and I'm only 19), as opposed to going there once every couple months.

Well victoria has an abundance of historical military sites, so count yourself lucky, I make it a point to visit everytime I am over there, always discover something new about the place.

Wow! My thanks for all the responses! As I suspected, I'll probably be "doomed" to a 98-K (Thank you contact 148!! Much Appreciated!)
I was really just wishing out loud for something different I suppose. Any thoughts on getting a G-43? Haven't heard any one mentch. those?
As Semi-Auto-Should be "Restricted"? But probably impossible to find? I've seen tons of working MP-40's on Canadian Re-enactor sites, so how did those get here? Anyway, thanks again all! Cheers-Jamiew

Semi automatic weapons are under the exact same specifications as the bolt action rifles out there.

SVT-40s are unrestricted, just the same as the Mosin Nagant. It's all about overall length and barrel length.

The G-43 is unrestricted, but if you're going into reenacting, you'd be looking to spend at least $1500 on one. More realistically $2000.

Jamie... how did you ever get your PAL believing that semi-autos were restricted??? The G/43 is no different than owning a Remington semi-auto hunting rifle. The real difference is that the G/K43 will cost upwards of 2 grand for one that hasn't been sporterized.

Personally? I'd stay away from a G43 for reenacting. You'll just bugger it up. And it's too expensive for that.

Damaging such a rare item would be very sad.

Maybe think about getting a replica. $300.

if reenacting the germans did use captured svt-40s, and captured nagant sniper rifles. on the eastern -fun /front.
if planning to be a private a k-98, if your planning to be a nco /officer the semis / other types would be a possibility.
i got 1 of each .
if you need a helmet cover let me know i stitch up a few an sell them /ebay.
