FSB mounted light Vs forearm rail???

I have a railed forearm on my AR because I wanted to be able to mount both a light and VFG.

As far as FSB mounts go, I've never owned one, so feel free to ingest as much salt as you like with my comment. The problem that I see with FSB/gas block type mounts is leverage. You're adding weight to the rifle farther away from the point where you support it.

My 0.02 CDN. Hey...at least our Canadian pennies are worth something this week! :D

The use of pressure switch and a FSB mount would be your best option. The shock of firing/recoil will affect your light if mounted to your FSB. An LED light will eliminate this issue. A rail system and in particular a free float rail system will greatly reduce any stress on your light. The choice is mostly personal. I find lights mounted to the FSB add a significant amount of weight and increase strain on the shooter when maintaining a mounted position for any length of time.

Pressure switch to come later,maybe.

O.K. I know lighter is mostly better, the G2 is really low weight, but would this set-up still be lighter then add a rail unit and light??

also forgot to mention that I picked-up a Model Z32 Shock Isolated Bezel for it,whether or not its needed ,its a small peace of mind.and ARs having such a light recoil I have mixed feelings about it.

And isn't the shock /recoil the same where ever you mount a light???

Whats a TRIAD mount???

Just ask a Solider how he Like the TRIAD Mount with A Flash Light.. Makes it front heavy...

This is mostly why I made the comment about the FSB mount. I know, a PEQ-2 and a flashlight are different, but the principle is the same.

a TRIAD mount is similar to an FSB mount. It allows the mounting of an accessory to the side of the gas block. They are on the Canadian Force's C7A2. They are not much loved for the reason that RobertMcC mentioned.

I guess this is kinda a related question...

Is there an 'ideal' position to mount a flashlight on a railed forearm? I have mine on the right side, near the muzzle of the barrel but not so close as to be affected by the flash.

If you don't mind a wee bit of weight... FSB mount is the cheapest....

Another cheap method is getting a section of M1913 rail, attaching it to the lower handguard of the AR15, mount a VG and a light mount....

As Pictured here...

Thats a good point, for mounting the light as far foreward as you can.
if you mount it at a 3 or 9 0'clock postion and have it back, this would be with a forearm rail, lets just say so you can use it with you thumb while having a magwell grip(keep in mind I'd like to add as little as possiable to this rifle,so no VFGs for now),does it creat a shadow or dark spot on the off-side???

The amount of shadow will be affected by the weapon...carbine, middy, or rifle?

Also, it is worth considering the shorty sections of rail that RobertMcC is talking about. They are inexpensive and light, and should be enough for mounting a small light like the pistol-style on that he has on there.

Mounted this far forward, I don't really get a shadow. If moved back then yeah it casts a large shadow to the left side.

I gotta get a vertical grip... right now no matter how I set it up its a bit awkward to work the pressure switch flush with the rail on the other side. I work it with my left thumb with my hand over the magwell, but I think it'll be way better with a forward grip.
