Took my old Stevens 77 to the range the other day. Fired the first ten rounds perfectly, then the next went "click". Waited the obligatory minute and ejected the shell. Appeared to be normal dimple made by firing pin, but no bang. I racked another round and again a click. Odds are this is a firing pin related issue to me, but the mechanism seems to be normal. Btw I was using cheap Winchester target loads from Walmart at the time.

~ Clean that notch in the top of the receiver where the bolt moves upward, it may not be allowing the bolt to go fully into battery.
~ IIRC, the Slide Assembly has a lug that engages the Operating Handle Bar, this lug can come loose with wear and require reattaching.

When this started happening with my old CIL 607 it turned out to be a split firing pin. It would dimple primers and some would go off, some not.

Culprit was a broken firing pin. The tip that smacks the primer had broken free from the rest of the firing pin. Any ideas where to obtain one? Western gun parts maybe? Thanks for the help.

A few places in the States list them in inventory. Popert's and gun-parts.com, not sure if either of them would be willing to ship up here but it might be worth an e-mail. I guess a phone call would be the only way to find out with Western. That split sounds identical to the one in my CIL. I still haven't come across a pin for mine, but I haven't been looking too hard either, the 870 is still getting the job done. Good luck!

I will look for a replacement, but, to hedge my bets, I handed it over to an acquaintance of mine who is a welder. Not sure if he could fix it, but the part is broke anyway, so why not?
