There was this guy today at the range, and his SKS went full auto mode.
Was not the firing pin...
He said he got it from lebarons four weeks ago, and today was the first time he took it out shooting.
He stopped shooting immediately and will bring the rifle to a gun smith to get it fixed.
What would you do in this case?
They are used, refurbished rifles, I don't think there is any warranty on this guns.
Do you think Lebarons (the store from which the rifle was purchased) should take care of the repair bill?
Would like to know your opinion.
Thanks

IMO I think that LB's should refund the purchase price or replace the gun with another one .

They are surplus & who knows what has happened to the gun over the years but going FA to me would not be acceptable.

he was shooting regular checkoslowakian surplus.
I inspected the firing pin and it was clean and free floating.

damn, am i the only one that would keep it and cherish it forever :D

I was thinking that but if this is a malfunction, and I believe it is, the risk of injury far outway's the "KEWL" factor. If it is by design, then you are also at great risk since your life as you know it will be over if you're caught with it.

did he let you try shoot it =D

I have to admit, the sound was great...

and yes, there was a huge line up (from people who would have loved to get a few rounds off), but nobody got to shoot the rifle.

He packed it up rather quickly, to get it repaired.

Beats getting killed or busted..................bought a High Standard pistol that did that.Full auto then bursts..................Harold

I've heard the cases of an SKS going FA while doing my service in the Soviet Army. Once again, I haven't seen it, since we didn't shoot them(I've used it as a ceremonial rifle a couple of times). I believe that the earlier versions are prone to this due to the trigger mechs., which are slightly different from the late version, were getting dirty and the rifle fires out of the battery then...Once again, it's not safe. If it's not a firing pin, clean the trigger mech and you should be OK.

Yeah.. a out of battery slamfire is awesome.. keep it... Just remember to wear your gloves and eye pro.

Get it fixed before something bad happens.

my advice to the guy was: to bring it back to lebarons in mississauga and give them s**t for putting his life and safety in jeopardy, when they sold him a full auto rifle (damn bastards).

than demand to choose the nicest and best SKS from their entire inventory to recompensate for all the troubles:D

ya that be wise all u want is to have a round go out of sequence and blow in the gun lost fingers or parts of ur face is what ever one wants. anyone who doubts that check out all the videos online of guns blowing theres one of a modified ak blowin top of the action went good few feet. The guy did the right thing bring it back or get it fixed.

I have heard of this happening before due to worn trigger group parts. A gun dealer should take it back and give you a refund or another decent rifle. They are responsible for what they sell you, so let it become their problem. The SKS was never intended to fire on automatic, so the consequences could be dire for the shooter, resulting in serious injury or a permanent smile.

That would be the right thing to do.

Who's the guy in your avatar?
