I hope this is the correct forum......
Moving from small bore to full bore and wondering if there is an opinion on electronic hearing protection.
Looking for muffs for and adult and my kids as well.
Want them to be able to hear range commands but save their hearing.
Please let me know what you think.
Thanks.

My $0.02

I would double up and go with Custom fitted inner ear protection (plugs) and add the Electronic Muffs on top with the volume turned up.
After going this route I would never go back to just ear muffs by themselves.

You should be able to find quite a number of dealers for the custom plugs (They make a mold of your inner ear and design the plugs around it). Remember it's not just DB level noise to be concerned with, but the concussion of big bore rifles on the inner ear you are trying to protect against.

I got mine from these guys but you can probably find similar for cheaper with enough searching: protectear.com

I agree on the double up if shooting indoors or big bores on a covered firing line. The best electronics I could find for the money and NRR were the Howard Leight Impact Pro, NRR 30. About $85.00 at Cabela's in the States, seem to be sporadically available at Cabela's Canada. May be worth ordering from the States unless you can find something cheaper here. Most of the 30 dB NRR electronic muffs up here are $200 plus

I have never owned a pair of electronic muffs. I sometimes double up my hearing protection and have not had any difficulty hearing people talk in a normal voice. The nice thing about the electronic muffs is you don't feel the urge to take them off and on and get caught without!

Please do not buy the Caldwells the are cheap for a reason they cannot be relied upon. Your NATURAL hearing is worth a lot. I have believe it or not $10,000 worth of hearing and believe me it is not as good as your natural hearing. A few years ago I hat a bad experiece with Caldwells when shooting they did not dampen the noise but actually amplified it it felt like someone stabbed me in the ear with a screwdriver please look after your hearing
