What a great day in Alberta.....+1C at the local rifle range and we're celebrating.....
I probably shouldn't post this here, but I am going to anyways....
I just received my .17HMR Volquartsen that I ordered seven months ago and today I fired close to 150 rounds with it. I was testing with seven different types of ammo shooting five, five shot groups with each, to find out which ammunition worked best with my particular rifle. In the .17HMR you shoot
17g or 20g in various different brands. I set up my wind flags and started to play....I was very impressed; I have never shot or been around the .17HMR,
but with the right Ammo selection, and watching the wind flags, and careful
trigger pulling, I could easily shoot under 1" groups at 100 yards, in fact, I shot many groups in the 5's, 6's, and 7's. I thought this was great for a
semi-automatic rimfire rifle at 100 yards. The best ammo, Hornady 17g V-max resulted in five, five shot groups agging at .830 at 100yards.
Again, I guess this article shouldn't be put in the "Precision Rifle" section, but I bet many centerfire rifles are unable to shoot this kind of grouping.
What a fun day shooting at the range at the end of November.....
