Newbie here again,

Just shot my first few rounds of practice skeet and man oh man there is a lot to consider. Afterwards one of the guys in my squad showed me a "Fundamentals of Skeet" infographic (big ass sheet with info and diagrams) detailing what to do at what station with regard to gun hold, how far to lead, high house then low house or doubles at each station etc. I'm wondering if anyone on here has anything like that. I would love to do some homework on the particulars as I don't want to burden the squad with asking questions or slowing people down to teach me gun hold, lead etc. Any other helpful resources would also be helpful.

Thanks,

Guatz

Best thing I can recommend is any of the videos by Todd Bender from Sunrise Productions. Or Amazon has the early ones like Winning with the Fundamentals in Skeet. Breaks down the best possible consistent approach to each station. Features the "eye-cam" which is almost like you were the one shooting.

Also Giambrone's sunrise productions videos. The important thing to remember is that any advice you get is just a guideline. What the best of the best are doing is not necessarily the right way for everyone, they just rarely do anything wrong. You'll see leads differently, react differently, and move differently than everyone else, and after a few thousand shells you'll develop your own style that works for you. That said, from the start I would try to avoid thinking about how far in front you have to be break a given target, instead thinking about how you are going to build the correct lead into your setup every time through your eye position relative to your gun position. Nothing beats quality instruction in person however, Bob Larue is a NSSA certified instructor and he's out there in BC somewhere, perhaps you might try looking him up.

I've taken lessons with both Bender and Giambrone, and have both of their videos. I still can pick things up from the videos when I rewatch them (and I've watched them dozens of times).

They teach very solid fundamentals that can be applied to most shooters (more so with Bender).

The videos will get you started in the right direction, but you absolutely can't beat personal instruction. Bob LaRue is a great guy and will get you going in the right direction. If you can't meet up with him, he will likely be able to recommend someone who is closer to you.

Brad.

Also, try to find that crew at your club that shoots all the time. Those crazy guys that are out there even if its -40, week after week, year after year.
Look for guys that can run 75 or 100 straight consistently and try and squeeze your way into that crew if possible.

Fundamentals are key, instruction is great, but you have to get out there and shoot a lot.
Prob pick up a lot on yourself by watching and shooting with other skilled shooters.

You mean not everybody enjoys getting frostbite while shooting skeet in January? Learn something new everyday. We have a dedicated club of frostbite skeet shooters here in Moncton, I belong to that club. Also, I do know from experience that a Beomat Trap will freeze up below -26C on the far trap field.

Thank you all for your input am looking up some of those video series now. I've been shooting skeet consistently and having a riot with a gang of seasoned vets showing me the ropes however I'm at the point where I no longer want someone looking over my shoulder coaching me through where to hold, what to lead etc.

Cheers
