I just thought this up to make cleaning my SKS easier after using corrosive M-43 ball ammo. - The funnel was something that Home Depot had, the bigger vinyl hose is 3/8" inside Diameter, the smaller is 3/8" outside diameter. The pictures speak for themselves, all in all the cost for materials was just 12 bucks or so, you might be able to get the hose by the foot or inch if you're really cheap! :p

sorry about the crummy pics.

Nice invention!

I might make one for myself.

Do you just clean the bore / barrel with this?

How about the gas tube and piston etc?

How do you clean those before oil them?

Well, It would work okay for a Nagant too if you're using corrosive ball, just pour boiling soapy water down there to dissolve the corruption in there, the heat should evaporate any drops in there and then oil lightly. I didn't really check but the tip should fit into the piston end of the gas cylinder, I don't know how to get the piston extension out yet.

I have my first SKS (Russian) not too long ago either so I am still in the learning process:redface:

I found this pretty interesting:

The important thing is to get rid of the salts.
And this is well taken care of by hot water; all this followed with solvent and oil regular cleaning will insure that your nice, mint surplus stays that way.
BTW, don't forget the inside of the gas tube and piston. Piston is chromed but not the gas tube.

My SKS is refurbished, but for some reason the piston extension and spring does not come out, is it supposed to stay in there?

yes, till you rotate the lever further up . be careful to block the piston extension with your hand cos its gonna fly across the room .

For the gas tube and piston, no problem: take them apart and clean them separately. The piston can be wiped clean with a rag and solvent then doused with hot water, dried and very lightly oiled just before reinsertion.
I put a dab of lithium grease in the groove, it helps keep firing residues soft.
Gas tube gets the hot water treatment, too, then I clean it with a small jag and a few patches then lightly oil.
Secondary rod doesn't get in contact with gases. If you want to clean and grease it, be careful when you remove it: put your finger over it and lift the small pivoting lever just a bit to clear the rear sight mount. The part will just pop out.
Be careful: if you don't restrain it, it will shoot out across the room. Clean, grease and reassemble.
