Hey all I'm planning on having a semi custom gun built this winter hopefully. Just wondering if I'm missing anything
Action- savage precision target with 6oz-2 1/4lb pull acutrigger. Right bolt right eject
Stock- chocoate tactical adjustable length of pull and cheek weld. Glass bedded
Barrel- heavy weight stainless 6 flutes match grade (mystic precision). Target crown
Optics- zeiss conquest 4-16x50
Harris bipod 6"-9"

I haven't decided on rings and bases yet
Also barrel length. I'm thinking caliber as 243 winchester so I can play in southern ontario.

This gun will be for paper plinking on the farm out to about 400 yards or so

Thanks for any input

It all sounds great.

Also consider, Sightron SII big Sky 6.5-20X50 or SIII 6-24X50. You might these to offer better optics for similar money.

For the bipod, have a look at the version I am producing - see my dealer forum. Designed to fit the Choates and so much more stable then the Harris.

If I can help you with ring/bases and barrel specs, just let me know...

For the action, I hope to be able to offer more triggers for the Savage shortly. That way, you dont necessarily need to find a target action and part it out. Will save you a bunch of money in the long run since there is little you want to keep from the orig rifle.

If you already have the action, disregard the above paragraph :)

If you do not plan on hunting with it, consider the 6BR. An amazing 6mm option with more then enough oomph and performance to excell way beyond 400yds.

Go with a fast twist 1:7" for 90 gr bullets or a 1:8" for 80 gr bullets in .223. You will be able to launch them out to 1000 yards and your barrel will last about 3 times longer than a .243.

If you are planning on ordering a barrel... I would think about either ordering one now, or purchasing an "in-stock" barrel later... Up to you. There is quite a wait time on ordering barrels.

Good choice of components.
I don't think Zeiss make a 4-16x. in the Conquest. I would recommend go with the 6.5-20x50mm. I have the 4.5-14x and the 6.5-20x, both are great but I like the latter one better for longer range shooting.

I haven't decided on rings and bases yet

I highly reccomend the Burris ZEE rings. The inserts can add more cant to the 20MOA base and increase your rifles effective range assuming your ammo can keep up.

If you're buying a scope with little elevation adjustment (anything 1" tube or less than 75MOA), definetly buy the Burris rings.

Best part is, they're one of the cheaper options, which to me makes little sense, but I'm not complaining.

Sightron scopes are great for targets; buy the SIII if you need a 30mm main tube (lots of elevation adjustment, 100MOA). The SII is the 1" tube model.

I was thinking 243 as savage lists their precision target actions as 223 or standard. Thought the standard would give me options later if I ever shoot out the barrel. Ill for sure check out your bipod and sightron scopes thanks

I went with the .260 for to give me lots of power while keeping it in a short action and under the .277 non sense.

In the process of getting a 260 build started myself. 243 is great but if you want to shoot 6mm bullets there are less punishing, more efficient calibers that do it better.

6mmBR
6XC
6SLR

I have the choate custom tactical stock on hand as well as 6mm and 6.5 mm bbls in stock. I can chamber to whatever you want, pm me if I can help out.

cheers
