Fx-9

Appears at the moment there is only 4 or so left based on the maximum it will let add to cart.

I would be all over one if I didnt already have one. Absolutely fantastic gun. Great ergos and only suggestion is to lube it generously when received as mine came bone dry. It also recommends using 115gr to start and no aluminum. Take down and cleaning was a breeze. It does get dirty fast. Guess straight blowbacks are like that.

Gun is so fun to shoot. I haven’t had any problems in 1400 rounds through it. After the first 300 rounds or so of 115gr I switched to my usual 147gr. No issues whatsoever.

Only small issue I have noticed is the last round bold hold open seems to like non-OEM Glock mags. My Glock mags are hit and miss - mostly miss, but my Magpul PMAGs work perfectly.

It was partially your posts that convinced me to go for the FX-9. Let’s just say I’m very satisfied.

I’m still running 115gr Remington’s and they’ve been excellent!

I only have the magazine that comes with the gun, plus one Magpul and they both work perfectly for last round hold open.

Have you guys customized your FX-9's in any way or running stock configuration? I want to get the 3" muzzle enhancer, probably a new pistol grip, a foregrip and upgraded charging handle. Post some pics !

I am happy that my feedback was of some value then...congrats on your gun and glad you like it!

I think I overlube my gun since whenever I shoot it afterwards, it looks like a blown car radiator at first with all the smoke...haha...that goes away after a few shots. It is such a pleasure to clean compared to my previous go-to gun which was my Ruger PC Carbine. The FX9 seems more accurate out of the box as well.

If there was one "wish-list" item I would like to see, it's a bigger charging handle. I know there are some people here who sell bigger ones but I am trying to find a more affordable third party option. My bolt release also can act up occasionally with releasing when the gun is bumped or just by itself. Not sure if it still needs to be broken in per se, or maybe my overlubing everything has had its first victim insofar as parts goes. Not a big deal, though.

Freedom says on their website that "Note: If your FX-9 was manufactured after Jan. 13, 2020 or your firearms serial# is greater than 023478, then your model came equipped with our Enhanced Charging Handle. All Canadian models are equipped with the original standard version." . Is even the 'enhanced' charging handle too small in your opinion? I was considering purchasing the enhanced right away....

In my opinion and based on my own experience with this, the "enhanced" charging handle is only marginally better than the original one (which I have since seen from an owner of the original). So I can definitely say that whatever the version that we got recently, it differs than the one from a few years back. The original one was more of a straight T shape and this one is more of a rounded T shape, and slightly bigger. I still find the enhanced one or the rounded version (which is on mine) too small. It is better than the original one but as mentioned, only marginally (in my view).

There is a CGNer here who produces one that is massive and allows a much better grip and universally other owners have raved about this significantly larger handle. It is pricey though which is why I haven't pulled the trigger yet on a purchase.

Thanks! Your feedback was definitely valuable. I was choosing between the FX-9 and the Ruger PC Carbine. I’ve used the Ruger and did enjoy it, but found it somewhat heavy and clumsy. This is especially so after shooting the FX-9. Also, I find the controls to be more intuitive on the FX-9.

I tend to over-lubricate, too. Though, it doesn’t seem to effect it negatively.

I have had my FX9 for about 1.5 years now and It has seen a little over 1500 rounds. It is one of the first few that made it into Canada (at least this is what I was told, the CH channel is shorter than the newer ones). It runs fine with all ammo I feed it. It likes the Pmags the best. I have some ETS mags that have been rode HARD, they fail to hold the bolt back on the last round. I stick to pinned Pmags for the FX9, no issues. Yes it likes to be run wet. I have swapped out the grip for a BCM mod 0, installed a larger (BCM?) trigger guard, a BCM vertical grip, magpul stock, Olight Mini Odin and a Bushnell 1-4x24 illuminated AR scope and of course the Nickk Charging Handle. Yes its worth it. I hummed and hawed on it but finally pulled the trigger. It makes a big difference. The stock and enhanced CH are trash, you won't look back and if you are running a scope it helps a lot.
I would like to play around with installing a BAD lever, maybe a project for the holidays.

I'll post some pics tonight.

Pics as promised...

^that looks like the upgraded charging handle. Mine is the other one but works well enough. All I need now is an 8" upper and im off to the races.

It is! I added some 3M traction tape as there is no texturing on the part of the handle you grasp, my only real gripe about the handle. I would love to get a 8 or 10" upper as well. I may have to keep my eyes out for one.

That is the Nickk from CGN charging handle?

BTW, the photo with the beverages - I'm trying to figure out what kind of beverages are in each bottle. Yep, too much time on my hands....

I am gonna try to move my tape switch to the top like yours. I have a similar set up with a Magpul short grip up front but I have my tape switch at 9 oclock position. Never was comfortable with it due to some arthritis...never considered putting the switch on top.

Yes this is the Nickk CH. The tape switch on top is perfect if you use a 'C clamp" grip as your thumb rest right on top of it. You can control the rifle without unintentionally activating the switch.

Thanks for the idea. Having the tape switch on the side is not great - on more than one occasion, I have cleared my gun at the range, chamber flagged it, along with everyone else on the line. RSO checks everything and then closes the line while we go change targets. Everyone is blinded by my light when they change targets due to it sitting on the side (on the tape switch) - of course, I can't shut it off until I get back on the line. I think your idea would be a perfect remedy for me and save the temporary blindness to fellow range members (not to mention save my battery life - my light batteries are an odd type that can't be bought everywhere).
