Due to requests, I'm posting a review of my relatively new FX Streamline. It is in .22 with a synthetic stock.

I received the rifle just over a month ago, but it had issues holding air. Sent it back to AGS, and they had it back to me within a couple of weeks holding air just fine. I also purchased the single shot tray with it.

The magazine is decent, and holds 11 rounds. It is slightly smaller than the standard 12 shot, in order to allow for lower mounts. I have used medium height rings, and I can just squeeze the magazine under the scope at that height, which is quite nice. The low weight is one of its shining features. Weighing in well under 6 lbs, it's so easy to carry around. The stock coating is really nice to the touch, and makes it a great rifle to carry around on longer ventures.

I brought it out to the range, and got her zeroed in at 40 yards:

The top 3" target shows my first ever group of 5 shots with the gun. My first 4 were the cluster on the right side. My last shot I subconsciously pulled left to go for a bulls eye. I could feel myself doing it, and just couldn't help myself. In any case, the first 4 shots were right close to 1/4" CTC. Very good accuracy for 40 yards. I would imagine that it will just improve from here on in.

I took it out to a farm for the long weekend where we took a few sighters, and then walked around looking for gophers. No gophers to be seen due to the unusually cold winter, but a pigeon met his demise with ease at 35 yards, resting on a fence post. Just about shot a second out of the air when people were goading me on. I watched the pigeon hit the brakes hard and change direction, as the pellet came so close to his beak he probably could've smelled it.

My third trip to Mission for a FT shoot was yet another success. I had the chance to run it over the chrony, and tested out both the 15.9 gr and 18.1 gr JSB Jumbos. With the 15.9 gr, It was shooting at 910 FPS on high setting, 710 fps on medium setting, and 505 fps on low setting. Shot count on high filling from 220 bar (10 bar below max) yielded 50 shots on average before requiring a refill at 135 bar, where I suspect the regulator is set. On medium setting, the shot count was 90-100. I didn't shoot on low other than to test over the chrony and get an idea of how loud it would be.

Zeroed at 40 yards on high setting, I went and tested out the POI on medium. Turns out it was hitting dead on from 10 yards to about 25 yards, then requiring overhold past that range. Medium setting is right around 18 FPE, which is great for FT with the 20 FPE max. I scored a 36 out of 40 on my first run, using 15.9 gr pellets, and an illegal chair / position that I like to call the "La-Z-Boy". One of my shots was way off, from what I believe was a bent skirt, it pulled right and had trouble loading. Could've been 37!

I then went on to check how the 18.1 gr heavies shot. Shooting at around 54 yards, I was shocked to see that the POI didn't really move at all. I finally got the scope really dialed in, and that's where I really saw the Smooth-Twist barrel shine. I couldn't notice any difference in accuracy between the 15.9 gr and the 18.1 gr. We were knocking a spend shotgun shell up and down a hill at 50 - 57 yards, and it was a gimme.

The trigger on the rifle is just fantastic. The adjustable blade is so comfortable on the trigger finger, and the first stage is nice and light. The second stage feels around half a pound, and can be felt very easily. A little pressure when you feel it, and it breaks like glass.

The only negative thing I've noticed at all, is I occasionally get a pellet that needs to be pushed in hard. The lever action is normally so smooth that you can't feel anything at all. When I have a tough pellet, it has caused fliers. I think this may be dented pellets, though, and has been a rarity. I'll have to do a better job of inspecting prior to shooting.

I'm very happy with the rifle. For the $1,150 it costs, I don't think there are any competitors that can boast all of the features. Regulated, adjustable and repeatable power (3 settings on the power wheel click into place with authority), lightweight, very high end accuracy, match grade trigger, efficient... It is basically my dream rifle, I have no other wants.

It was really neat seeing this rifle in action at Mission the past Sunday. I shot alongside Mike with my QB78D through the circuit and was especially impressed with how easily the more difficult targets went down, the squirrels with 1/4" to 5/16" holes. He may have been cheating with the easy chair (guy looks pretty comfy in that thing!) but still, some impressive shooting. Looks like a rifle one can get completely comfortable using in hardly any time at all. And the low weight is seriously interesting, very tempting along with that shot count. Not sure I'd be switching power levels a lot, but if one were doing a lot of switching between open field hunting and farm yard/barn pest control I can see dropping to 500fps then bumping it up to 900fps being very handy. Sure would be better than having two dedicated rifles, one for each job, and he wasn't seeing any horizontal shift between velocities. And the noise level was equally impressive. Seems FX absolutely nailed the out-of-the-box efficiency with this one, not a bit of wasted air happening.

Glad you guys appreciated it!

Yep, that was a lot of fun shooting in Mission. I think I'll really have it figured out in about 3 or 4 shoots, and I'll start doing more rigorous testing over the chrony, and go for some 50 yard 10-shot groupings.

I'll have to order some more of those 15.9gr pellets, too. Down to about 600 or so left. Another few thousand should do the trick.

Did I ever!

"Another few thousand..""

For the weekend, right?

Thanks for the review, looks like a nice rifle!

For a reason or another, I expected the laminated to look like this?

Just a bit disappointing that you had to send it back to fix some air leaking... seems to be happening a lot with the new FX.
On the bright side, AGS dealt with the issue!

Whoops, definitely meant synthetic stock! The laminate hasn't even made its way into Canada yet. A bit of a bummer on the leak, but it didn't take long to fix. It does indeed seem common with FX rifles, but from what I've seen it's just an o-ring replacement and they're good to go. That was the case with mine... The regulator has 2 o-rings sealing it to the air tube, and one was perhaps damaged when it was installed. I have no concerns moving forward, despite the general unrest caused by what seems to be non-owners of FX rifles. I'm happy to support a company that is continually pushing the boundaries, while also managing to bag so many top places at competitions.

They said they were meant to have a shroud, but the delivery would have been delayed significantly, as they have had trouble keeping up on making the shrouds. After some measurements that Gerard and I took, we found that the shroud would have been barely larger than the OD of my barrel. Either the shroud has very low air volume, or the standard barrel was thinner.

Due to requests, Travis is planning to try and order shrouds that can be sold separately.

The Royale comes with the same muzzle brake as I got on my barrel. It has more power, but sucks down a lot more air per shot. It has a 400 cc cylinder vs 190 cc, they get the same number of shots per fill, but the Royale boasts an extra few FPE. The Royale also weighs in at 3/4 lb heavier and 2" longer. The Royale has a very nice stock, designed for right hand shooters only. The Streamline is ambidextrous, but still quite nice.

I've shot the Royale in .22 as well, and I personally don't feel that it is worth the extra money. The main features are there, the trigger is identical as far as I can tell.

Quick update from some shooting on the weekend. We were up in Mission where they've cleared some area, allowing for longer shots. We were shooting at targets at the start of the slope in the picture down range. At 66 yards, we couldn't tell where we were hitting on the target unfortunately, so I just fired a shot into the sand to see where it kicked up as a sighter.

The wind was low to moderate, but unpredictable. Seemed to be gusting in different directions. Here was 10 shots at 66 yards:

Shot them in a hurry, but they turned out very decent. Full CTC is 1 1/4". 7 of the shots landed in the 10 rings. I'm honestly shocked at the results given that I couldn't see the points of impact.

Still a fantastic rifle, and honestly it just can't be beat for the price. I'm going to have to work on getting a sling on it, and it's coming grouse hunting this season!

This kind of thing is bringing me back a bit to wanting an FX of some sort, though I still lean towards the Impact for its compactness and easily adjustable regulator and other adjustments. Just wish the scope wasn't so darn high over the bore on the Impact. But yeah, I was there watching you shoot that phenomenal 10 shot group, from the still slightly wobbly old picnic table we braced with rocks, in that bouncy breeze that kept shifting direction, and if I hadn't seen it I'd have been hard pressed to believe it. Such a sweet shooter!

Any more updates since your initial test of this FX Streamline???

Sure looks like an awesome air rifle

I have looked into purchasing one, but seems to be no stock in Canada at this time.

Thanks for your post, BTW

very impressive results for a new out of the box gun!

Cheers

Lucky

Yup, the one a couple posts above is very recent. Just took it out hunting hoping to spot some blue grouse while I was looking for bucks, but the weather wasn't appropriate. Still fired some shots with it though, and it's still the same laser of a gun it's ever been.

I can't imagine how someone would be disappointed with the Streamline given my experience. Haven't read about anyone having issues, either. I highly recommend going for .22 cal.

Hey Mike, that's some good shooting!
I am eagerly waiting for the Streamline to become available in Canada again.
What scope ring combo did you end up choosing for it?

Al

Hi Al,

Yep, it's a shooter alright. I can only imagine how that would've tightened up on a less windy day properly benchrested, and if I had some way of actually seeing where I was hitting the target!

It seems that FX is always behind on production. Hopefully they start making these things quicker at some point, given the demand. You're not the only one waiting for a Streamline. I'd recommend calling Travis every so often to try and get a better date and lock one down before they all get taken.

I used a pair of SportsMatch medium rings, that just barely allow the magazine below:

The scope is a Optisan Mamba Lite in 4-16x44. Doesn't seem to be available anymore at our stores, I bought it through SSSO a few years back.

It's a FT / hunting scope with decent clarity and an excellent reticle for air rifles. It used to be mounted on my Hammerli Pneuma, and the scope has proven itself over those years of use. The side focus is another plus. I took quite a few starlings and rabbits with my Pneuma with that scope on it at incredible ranges (head shot on a starling at 67 yards!). I can only imagine its future on the FX.

Well, another day at the range, and yet another ridiculous result from the Streamline.

nxTK014.jpg

This 5 shot group was at 100 meters in the rifle range. The other hits were from sighting in some centerfire. I didn't adjust the scope, so I was overholding a ridiculous amount. Just over 1.5". This was shot off a really lousy front rest that sits at the range, and no back rest.

Needless to say, it turned some heads. I'm pretty sure there are a few guys looking to buy their own FX rifles after trying it out. A few guys commented that it was shooting better than their centerfire at that range.

An update on my initial review is that I am no longer having any loading issues. The pellets seem to all be going in smooth, and I'm not getting any fliers at all anymore. Not sure what caused the initial 1/10, but it doesn't matter much to me at this point, the rifle has been absolutely ridiculous in its accuracy. If I were to guess, it would be a bad batch of pellets.

A month ago shooting in Mission we had some golf tees set up at 40 yards, and placed paintballs on them. Using a post in the shelter as something to hold onto made it too easy. We decided to push ourselves for a real challenge, and had a standing position competition. Another guy there took his first shot, and nailed it. I took the second, and could hardly believe my eyes as the paintball erupted in a splash of blue. I pretty much wanted to stop right there, it just wasn't going to get any better than that.
