I tossed this together this weekend. It's in .22LR and made from a Norinco JW-25a (shorter than a real K98) and some Yugo parts I think and a cupped sniper buttplate. I'm not 100% satisfied, and it really needs that metal sheeting over the left side.

I am aware also that the band retainer is on the "wrong" side for a G.33. I feel that the real parts should go on a restoration and not an imitation. Plus it saves some money.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed that the band retention system on the JW-25a is sloppy at best. It is nice to have the real retention system on this thing. It's very tight and nothing is falling out.

The stock is the Norinco original. I stripped it with a palm sander, beat it up with some brass chain, and used my secret stain, the stain that makes any gun look like a milsurp and a restoration look like an untouched original....

Minwax Ebony... I know Ebony... it should be like black paint but it comes out brownish on hardwoods and makes it look patinated and dirty.. just like a milsurp should... careful on pine, however, it just looks like black paint!

Now I will add depth to the finish by BLO treatments. Some of the darkness will come off but its looks will improve.

Here's a step by step:

1. Buy a Norinco KKW trainer
2. Add Yugo parts: Barrel bands (both), Band Spring, and Handguard
3. Add cupped buttplate (dremel stock to fit)
4. Attach Yugo parts: Chop and dremel handguard, remove metal clip,
dremel out a cut for the band spring in the stock, cut the band spring down to size.
** note: I had to remove about 1 inch from each end of the handguard, and also deepen the
cut that allows the sights to work with the raised handguard
5. Age the metal on the Norc. With scouring and fine sandpaper
6. Cut bayonet lug pin to fit under new barrel band
7. Sand and refinish stock with Minwax ebony!!!
8. Enjoy your mountain carbine.

This one I bought used without the manual. I have read that manual before... it's quite good for a laugh.

I got another one of these rifles coming, one with the side-mount scope from back when they called these rifles "TU-KKW"
