Hello.

Looking into a Gen4 Glock 9mm.

I see the G17 is fairly available, however I am interested in the G19 for it's slightly smaller size. I'm unsure if the lone wolf barrel has any issues, and how difficult these guns may be to get.

Any input on these 2 handguns would be greatly appreciated.

I own both, and the G17 is slightly heavier, however most people like the "fit" of the G19. Depending on if you change out the sights, you may? have to adjust the front sight height for the G19. Heinies come to mind? Either are excellent pistols.

I have owned both over the years and I find the G19 works better for me. It just feels best in my hand and seems to be the
"perfect" size. The "black" Lone Wolf barrels work okay for me....

Unless you are grandfathered, you'll be purchasing a G19 with an aftermarket >105mm brl.

If you have average-size hands the G19 has enough for a full-length grip with no fingers overhanging.

I find the G19 grip too small, but I have large hands - so I prefer the G17 of the two.
Heck, the G20 fits my hands better.

If you search both here and on the net, you'll find lots of people hailing the Glock 19 as the perfect "just right" size gun to get, calling the Glock 17 too big. I disagree, since my gen4 17 is smaller than most other popular 9mm handguns and very comfortable in my medium size hands. I like the 19, and I'll probably own one someday, but I will always have a 17.

This guy has a really great perspective on the 17 vs 19 debate. This is a great read:

I'm always surprised how different a G19 feels compared to a G17. On paper the differences are small but the 19 has a very different feel to me. I like them both--if you had a chance to try before you bought it would help.

:agree: for me the G19 is so different from the G17 Gen 4, the fit for me is almost perfect.

I'll have to see if I can get my hands on both. I held a G17 briefly a few weeks ago, and it seemed fine. Not sure where I can do some side by sides with the G19....

Thanks for all the replies.

Other than a slight advantage for concealed carry (again, not an issue here), they do "feel" better but that is really subjective. In the end, it is just slightly smaller than the 17.

I shoot my buddy's Glock 19 every chance I get and I would like to have my own, but I cannot see why they are so much more expensive than the Glock 17 other than supply and demand. I have 12.6 so I could own one with the Glock barrel, not interested in the aftermarket versions with the much higher prices. Even the 12.6 used ones are starting to climb up in price.

If you don't saying, what are G19s prohib going for these days?

I don't know it the grip differences between the two on the gen 4 frames are the same as the gen 2 frames, but with gen 2's they don't simply have the 1/2" taken off of the bottom of the grip. The "missing" 1/2 inch is higher up, moving the palm swell closer to the slide.

If you have small hands then the G19 will probably work better for you. If you have larger hands the G17 is probably the better choice. I have small hands and find the G19 much more comfortable to use, it fits me very well where the G17 feels more like gripping a 2x4 for me.

The Gen 4 is the same, the 19 is not just a 17 grip chopped off, it is shaped differently and fits smaller hands much better than the 17. You can try my Gen 4 G19 next time we are at the range together if you want to see how the new ones feel.
