Well in this current environment, finding a Gen 5 slide is pretty challenging, I'm considering a G19 Gen 4 slide and convert it to a direct mill for a MRDS or find a MOS slide?, that said, the idea is to run it on a G19X frame. I realize the ambi safety and rear back plate need to be changed. I was curious if anyone else has done it? and if you had any problems down the road?.

It works I dont like that you have to remove the AMBI slide stop/release, and use a gen 4 one. If I was going to keep it like that I would at least want some kind of washer or spacer to take up the void that remains on the right side of the trigger shoe when you remove the ambi lever. Or even sacrifice a OEM Gen 5 lever and cut the right side off leaving the part that surrounds the trigger

I was in your situation I wanted to add a red dot to my 19X, I almost went Gen4 slide, there are companies selling Gen 4 slides and they state they will fit Gen5 suarezinternational.com for example sell their Gen4 slides as fitting both gen4/5 with the mentioned parts swap to allow it

Luckily I was able to find a Gen5 G19 Zev Orion slide in stock in Canada, so I bought that instead

And recently I just bought a new/used G45 slide from a US importer, that took it off a G45 that someone changed the barrel and slide out before exporting it. So I got the complete G45 slide minus non legal Canadian barrel. Now I have 3 different fully set up and ready Gen5 slides that fit my 19X, I just swap slides depending on what I feel like shooting. All have the same OEM striker spring and OEM safety plunger spring weight, so my trigger feel does not change at all no matter what slide I have on.

Thanks, if I do it? I'll go with the modified ambi slide stop, there cost is pretty reasonable. BTW could you PM me the details of the G45 purchase? I wanted to go that route with a "take off" in the US, however the cost of the slide and importation made the slide almost as expensive as a complete pistol :( . In the long term, I'd prefer a G45 or a G45 slide, however these days you have to "take what you can get"
Cheers

Well to me it looks like someone bought a G45 and had aftermarket parts like a slide added to it also. So they removed the OEM 45 slide and sold it complete minus the non Canadian legal length barrel. I can tell it was off a new gun, it had the original anti seize looking grease on the slide where it slides on the frame rails. Its obvious it was a new take off only test fired by Glock

That company and IRG will both sell you and export/import a G45 for you. You just have to either supply them with a Canadian legal barrel, or buy a Canadian legal barrel for them to install prior to the import into Canada. The only loss on your end is the cost of the new barrel and you loose the OEM non legal Glock barrel. They will not give you any credit for that barrel, but its understandable they are doing something to get you the gun you want into Canada, they dont want to have to deal with selling or taking a hit on the barrel it comes with. And the import fees, but again to get certain things in Canada you have to pay a premium, its just the way it is here. I have had to do so many times, but I got some cool stuff that people always say "where the hell did you get that in Canada and is it legal". Many people on this site have done this and there are quite a few G45's in Canada now that were imported by IRG

I paid $514 US plus import fees and tax for the complete slide with all internals recoil spring included minus the barrel. That is right around the the cost of a complete Glock, but I wanted it and thats what it costs. To compare the ZEV gen5 Slide bare no internals or sights cost me around $800 Canadian.

The issue is that since we dont have any Gen5 Canadian legal G19's for sale to the Canadian market, gun stores aren't bringing in G19 Gen5 specific slides. Even the store I bought the slide from had no idea it could fit a G19X, it was sitting on their shelf for sale for like a year, because no one had a use for it.

If you really want just a slide or a complete G45 its possible, the gun your going to have to pay an import fee and supply or buy a legal length barrel, but a slide alone if you buy it from the exporter/importers there is no import fees on parts, just tax and shipping and US to Canadian dollar conversion. And the worst part for me about a 4-6 week wait for the import and shipping

Thanks, you pretty much summed it up, and your costs are very accurate. I'm going the Gen 4 route, it's right about where my "price point" is for this project, and the parts are readily available today, LOL. You certainly got lucky on the G45 slide, that's not going to happen too often. When the time comes, I suppose I'll anti up for the Cdn G45. Thanks for sharing your experience. Cheers

Yes your right I have only seen the G45 slide available as a complete take off this one time, I jumped right on it

If your patient (unlike myself) Im sure the Gen5 slides will make their way here. I was actually going to by a Canadian made slide from my range made by a company GFG
They only had Gen 4 but I contacted the company directly and they said Gen5 was in the plans for the future just no solid time on when that will happen

I even contemplated modifying a Gen4 slide to Gen5 as I have access to machining, its a very slight change, just the hole for the safety plunger is more rectangular then round, and has the notch on the other side for the slide lock/release

I really do like the change to the safety plunger, that stops it from rotating and getting chewed up like the round ones do over time. Especially the coated aftermarket ones, I have had some that get really chewed up as they rotate, and it also causes wear on the firing pins
