I am considering buying a 40-9 barrel for a G22 I don't use and keep it as backup, then I would have a back up for either my 40 and my 9!

I found 4 brands to be available, KKM, STORM LAKE, IGB and LONE WOLF.
They all seem to work, but I have heard people complaining about the chambers being too tight in some of these. With that being said, the lone wolf version seems to be the most popular one maybe because it is readily available.

I also found that KKM barrels produce a ding in one of the barrel lugs (under the barrel) not sure why (machining defect?) but it is all over the internet and it happens to KKM barrels only (?) Any info on this would be appreciated.
The least popular would be storm lake, maybe because they are harder to find?

So my questions being:

1-What is your experience with the conversion barrel? How many rounds through? Has it been reliable?
1b- Are the barrels gen 3 or gen4 specific or one barrel fits all?
2- Are the ejector and extractor needed to be replaced with 9mm parts when swapping to the 9mm barrel?
3-Did you find any premature wear on your slide after using an aftermarket barrel?
4-When switching back and forth, Did the new aftermarket barrel affected the fit for the .40 OEM barrel making it loose or wiggle in the slide cutout?
5- Did you save any money going the aftermarket route?
6-would you go that route again or would you just buy a 9mm specific gun (17-19-34)?

I'm running a LW 40-9 barrel. Got about 600-700rnds down the pipe so far. If you reload, you will want to either get a 9mm small base die and/or factory crimp die with the carbide ring (eg Lee) or you might get the odd round that won't feed due to possible case buldge from some other shooter. Zero issues with factory ammo.

I did not have to change out my extractor to a 9mm one. I have heard of some shooters having to do that. I have two other buddies who shoot the same barrel with stock extractor and recoil spring and have had zero issues. I did change out my recoil spring to a Wolf SS guiderod and spring only 'cause I wasn't crazy about the factory plastic one which is now my backup.

No "out of the ordinary" wear other than what you'd get from stock factory barrel. Non issue IMO.

I have not found any additional sloppyness when switching back & forth with factory 40SW and LW 9mm. 95% of the time I'm shooting 9mm anyway. Both barrels lock up solid.

The savings is not having to buy a dedicated 9mm Glock.

Seeing that most of the times I'm shooting 9mm, I would have been just as happy with a G17. Unfortunately I could not find a G17 in a RTF2 frame. Maybe I'll look into a G17 slide/barrel later down the road.

Have a LW 40-9 in my g23 only change out 40 mags to 9 mm mags, even then the 40 mags worked fine in slow fire , it's during drills and harder use that the 9 mm mags make a diff. The bbl itself has not been an issue in any way.
 
I used both Lone Wolf and Storm Lake bbls in my Glock 22. Both ran flawlessly. I also replaced the guide rod, and used a lighter (11 pound) recoil spring so it ran flawlessly with light cheap 115 grain 9mm like Wolf, Barnaul, etc.

You CAN shoot cast lead through these aftermarket barrels.

There were no signs of early wear. The barrels are the same for Gen 3 or 4. Only difference is the guide rods.... Gen 4 will need an adaptor to use most guide rods, and you can't use a gen 4 Ron in a gen 3 pistol.

Btw: I had no problems using my .40 magazines with 9mm. Plus you get bonus rounds!
 
You are correct , you do get higher round count. 13/10 mags I can get 2 extra 9mm rds. The 10rd Mags I get an extra 9mm. And for shooting paper or practice the rare ftf is not abig deal and you get malfunction clearing drills. You. An see the diff in the mags when you load 9 mm each 40 and 9 mags the 9mm wil sit with the.bullet pointing noticible higher (at a greater angle) in the 40 mag where the bullet will sit in the normal position in the 9 mm mag. This why you will get the occasional ftf with 40 mags. Again of abig deal Oma static range.
 
I agree with all of the above but I don't want any malfunctions during a match. At least, I would like to minimize the malfunctions as much as possible.
I just bought a 40-9 IGB barrel for my 22 and I am planning to run that with G17 magazines.
 
Extractor and ejector have different part numbers for both the 9mm and .40sw

It has been reported (all over the internet) that it might not be necessary to swap out the extractor or the ejector at your own risk.
Now, it is recommended to change everything to make the gun 100% reliable.


So, yes both parts change design wise.

In the case of using a LW barrel is not necessary to replace the ejector because the LW bore has been drilled off centre to compensate for this.
I am a bit detail oriented and would change everything.

If you're shooting matches you WILL want to use Glock 17 mags. If you're arseing about the range G22 mags will give you bonus rounds.

I don't think you need to replace the extractor or ejector. Just my five cents (rounded as there are no pennies!).
 
So I went ahead and ordered a IGB barrel from a known reseller in Quebec. I got the barrel on Tuesday, inspected and right away I noticed a good machining defect around the crown and one more in one of the locking lugs (under the barrel).
I was really unhappy with this and I contacted the seller and returned the barrel the next day. I got a phone call today, he apologized for the problem and he also mentioned that he had a few other barrels showing some machining defects as well. He asked me whether I wanted to try them or a refund. Refund it is.

So after all the buzz I have been reading on the net about the IGB barrels made in Austria, this and that, they turned out to be sh!t. It might just be a bad batch though, but I cannot trust a company (IGB) which such a poor quality control.
I have to say, I was really impressed by the packaging, the barrel came in a nice big plastic case with instructions and a paper saying '40K rounds warranty'. Anyway, needless to say the barrel is already back at the seller and I am waiting for a refund. I was hoping for a state of the art aftermarket barrel, but no.

So, folks I need your help, where can I find a KKM conversion barrel? Not interested in LW (just in case someone wants to offer)

Why not just buy a LW barrel? Many positive reviews and they are priced well. I put 1000+ rounds through mine in a Glock 23 and it was flawless.
 
I bought Lone Wolf 40-9 BBL and their 40 conversion bbl. I want to fire lead in my guns if I so desire. I have the Glock 22 RTF2 that I thought was a new gun but isn't, Glock bought them back from the police because of tender hands. This is a Glock #3 not a #4 as I thought is was. Sounds like an -Apple-computer-. I have bought a couple Glock 9mm mags as well for this setup. Long story short, lots of money spent for this setup. Is it worth the money, no, NO but what ever. I actually shot it today, at the range, I was going to go home and not shoot the gun but thought that was silly. I was shooting .45s and .40s so WTF. The gun shot well, I did as well with this gun as almost all the others. I am no marksman. I shot this gun stock and it leaded up really fast. The conversion bbls are worth the cost. The other issue is if you do what I have done, the brass can land on your head etc. You need to use the right ammo or the brass will sit on you hat brim.
