Is the Glock G34 legal in IPSC production class?

IPSC site says it is not legal but according to Glocks website and a lot of other forums I read it is one of the more favourite platforms.

Does it require modifications to make it legal?

So for a rookie getting into the sport having never done it before and not wanting to spend a ton of cash I would be looking at a G17 to shoot in the IPSC production class?

with the glock you have a 5# trigger pull every shot, with the shadow you have a 5# to start and then a 1.5# the rest of the time because of the da/sa operation. pretty good advantage and the extra weight up front from the full length dust cover helps keep the muzzle from flipping as much and that makes for faster splits

Absolutely a good choice. Overall a glock 17 is the least expensive handgun suitable for the sport, as Mags are excellent and cheap, and suitable accessories are cheap. The guns are reliable and accurate enough for the sport.

Yes the guns frame is plastic and lighter then a cz, so it recoils a bit more. As stated the trigger is a bit heavier than a cz's single action. Despite these deficiencies, many chose the Glock 17 for ipsc production and can shoot competitively with one.

Really? Could you please name at least one competitive competitor in Canada shooting G17? You can take the Nationals standings or LIII results for past few years.

Vogel won the world shoot with a Glock.
If that isn't endorsement enough, I don't know what is.
I'm selling my Shadows!!!!!!

There are few gun gods out there who can shoot pretty much anything... Besides, as you know, Vogel has an inhuman hand strength. Anyways, I bet he would have done much better with a Shadow or Tanfoglio.

Technically he couldn't do better than 1st place at the world shoot :), but I know what you mean.

And yes, his grip strength is stupid.
I spoke with him at the airport leaving Greece.
He showed me his grip strength training device that he does daily reps with.
No one there could squeeze the thing together, he made it look effortless.

OP sorry for the thread hijack.

My opinion, go try out a few pistols before you commit to buying something.
Ultimately, i would suggest you pick up a used Shadow to get you started.
Or even a new one, they go for just over $700, come with 3 mags. buy 2-3 more and you should be good to go.

The belt/holster/mag pouches will be the same cost regardless of pistol.
Again, go to your club or to an IPSC match and see what others are using. Ask why, ask to try their gear.
99% of the people will be more than happy to let you try their gear.

Nothing wrong with Glock. If it fits your hands it is a great gun to start IPSC. You can buy one on CGN for around 600 with 4-6 mags. Shadow will go for 1000 for the same set up. 400 bucks can buy you a training session with someone who knows few things about shooting IPSC and at least 1000 rounds.

Peter, with all due respect, if someone is buying a new gun for IPSC and seriously considering competing in IPSC, a $400 difference in gun price is nothing compared to the price of ammo. That will be less then 2000 rounds of ammo difference and some of us are shooting that much in a month (actually with all those L3s this June, I am expecting it is going to be even more). So, buying a cheap gun now just to have to replace it later is going to be a bad idea.

Eugene
I can see you are not the biggest fun of Glock and consider inferior to Shadow.
I think better pistol then Shadow is Stock 3 or Spinx, why don't you buy one of those.
Eugene is not about frikin gun is about ability of using it.
If someone wants to buy H&K P90 plus 4 more mags for $70 bucks each I say that is silly but having MP or Glock as first is not bad at all.
BTW I like P90L, can't justify +1300 for a pistol with IPSC unfriendly trigger.

Peter, you are missing the point. Price must be a last factor when choosing an IPSC gun. Besides, you've running the expensive one available and suggesting others to get a cheap one. something doesn't add up.

As for me, none of the Glocks fits my hand. With my high grip, its slide would rip right trough my flesh. Besides, a steel gun is more suitable for the kind of competition we are doing.

There is a difference in grips between Glock & CZ. I was never able to shoot Glock well because of the grip. That was the #1 reason I switched to CZ (Shadow).

I have a high grip and no problems with the Glock.

It is important to try out different guns and see what works best for the individual though.

Going froma Glock to my Caspian open gun sucked. I pointed the gun low for quite a while. The CZs have a grip angle very close to a 1921 (and most other guns) - an often overlooked factor.

Eugene everyone has his point of view. I am not against Shadow but for Glock because is a cheap alternative. Glock works well, best production shooters are using it all the time.
