I have been offered a G98/40 WW2 Military rifle in very good original condition(vet Bring Back)....trying to find a value on it....The seller wants $1000.....Any info about it appreciated....Thanks

Do all the numbers match? That would make a difference on value. I stole the information below from another post on a different site

I've been watching prices on Gunbroker recently to get an idea because I have thought about selling mine. Totally mismatched G98/40's in average condition are selling in the $500-$750 range. Matching guns start at about $600 for really beat up pitted examples and go up to around $2000 for really nice ones. Average, (and average for a G98/40 is very good) condition rifles that are all matching seem to go for $1500 +/- $250. As others have noted pictures are necessary to give any kind of good advice. These rifles are hard to find and are avidly sought after, but condition really comes into play. They are hard enough to find that you end up seeing real oddball prices too, there was a recent auction where a humped rifle went for $1850 even though the seller admitted it was humped (but not my him), then a few weeks later a much nicer rifle sold for less than a grand

Since we live in Canada, and thus do not have the selection of G98/40's that the US or Gunbroker does. $1000 seems like a fair price for a bolt mismatch.

If you can get him down to $850, even better. But unless the rifle is a complete basket case, he is asking a fair price. IMHO :)

I have not seen many in Canada, and the one I was chasing until recently was very mismatched. And bolt only mismatches can be at times indicative of a bringback. I am a fool when it comes to such rifles, so I would buy it at $850 if correct and unmessed with and only a mismacthed bolt:)

Nazi k98's are fairly scarce in Canada, at least it seems that way to me. I've only been into them for a couple years and I haven't found an all matching specimen in ANY condition. Just force matched Russian captures and Czech and East German refurbs. From what I have seen on U.S. forums most vet bringbacks have mismatched bolts. Is there any documentation that it is a bringback?

Roger on all the above comments. Unless you are a very picky collector a bolt m.m. rifle is a great find. An all matching WWII German Mauser is hard to find. I have seen very few examples except for Portugues K98's or Norwegien refurbs.

1. All Matching
2. Bolt mis-match
3. Stock Mis-match
4. All matching Norwegien, East German or Czech refurb
5. RC or complete mismatch
6. Sporterized rifle

Most 98.40's were issued to the SS who had problems finding arms as they were in direct competition with the Wehrmacht, mis-managed and expanding during this time period.

VERY seldom encountered!! Would I ever love a decent one:)
You are correct. I only looked at the G98 designation and jumped to the wrong conclusion. Apparently the G98/40 is one of the rarest Nazi marked service rifles and seldom encountered.
